Comments Thread For: Lennox Lewis Examines The Flaws of Joseph Parker

Former undisputed heavyweight world champion Lennox Lewis has analyzed the stylistic flaws of Joseph Parker. At 26 years old, the WBO world champion Parker has suffered back to back defeats. Back in April, Parker lost his world title when he dropped a twelve round unanimous decision in a high stakes unification with Anthony Joshua.

I also think Parker suffers from a lack of real self belief

Lewis is right. Parker, with the right trainer and team around him, could once again be a serious threat - but I think Lewis was being polite about sticking with his longtime trainer Kevin Barry, I think he needs to move on - unfortunately, as Barry has done an excellent job with Joe, but he needs a trainer who has experience in training world champions, and good at fixing bad habits.

I fear if Parker doesn't make that difficult decision before his next fight he could end up fading into a local club fighter eventually. Soloman Haumono, Alex Leapai, David Tua, all had the skills to dominate and do better than they did - Tua got unlucky drawing Lewis as his title tilt though - he would have had to be the 19-year-old typhoon version of Iron Mike to get Lewis out of there.

His biggest issue to me is trying fight as a back foot counterpuncher when he isn’t that tall and he’s got dwarf arms.

He looked better as a prospect when he was aggressive behind a short jab throwing combos.

He has been allowing himself to be outworked and outhustled

Lewis is pretty good at assessing fighters IMO.

As for Parker...I think it's mental to be honest, he needs that real Maori Warrior spirit like the All Blacks have. I'd like him to develop a really nasty streak but I just don't think its in his personality.

He lost to Whyte because Whyte roughed him up and he could not look beyond being bullied and fouled, that is a real weakness in boxing at the highest level because it is rare that a referee will give you much in the way of help once a fight is underway etc.

I don't think he's a wink minded guy ala Direll or whateva dude.

Parker was hesitant sometimes versus Josh and Whyte and rightfully so because he's defensively flawed and easy to read as LL pointed well, so his conservative instinct saved him from being koed.

Parker is doing the same sht all over again, he's stocky and quick, he could be a HW Canelo but he fights like Angulo lol

Lennox, stay focused. No one really gives a damn about Parker anymore. He can’t beat Joshua or Whyte or any top #5 HW. PLEASE examine the flaws of someone relevant. Inquiring minds would like to know. Maybe someone like Joshua or Wilder, you know the “belt holders” in the division. OR how about this Lennox. Break down the flaws of Povetkin and Joshua for the upcoming fight in a few weeks. That’s why Lennox got fired as an analyst on HBO, his ass can’t really stay focused on what matters.
