About the full exclusivity? Maybe, but for FOX it made all the sense in the world to ask for it. The thing that was off in this entire thing was when he said the budget wouldn't have been as big as the one SHO currently has. FOX isn't ****** enough to go in and ask for exclusivity and offer less than SHO. No one in their right mind would accept that.

But as Espinoza said, even with the FOX deal, there is plenty to go around for everyone.

All this was from Espinoza's interview with Coppinger.

What I took from the interview was that they definitely got a boost in their boxing budget and Espinoza wants to put on a few more cards next year. He also wants to do more in the production area with short documentaries or what not to highlight the journey of these fighters.

So what are we talking here, the budget goes from 45-50 million to 55-60 million? I think that is a fair estimate. But as to your post on the breakdown of the amount of shows put on, this would be my best guess.

      SHO ~18 shows
      FOX ~6 Primetime shows
      FS1 ~12-15 shows

And I have no clue if this FOX deal will or will not include those Tuesday or Thursday FS1 shows. So Haymon should have 24 big money SHO level cards along with around 15 lower level cards. Now, they could still be higher than the current level of FS1 cards, but just unrealistic to expect big license fees for those cards. I would have to think the ratings would have to improve greatly for FOX to invest big license fees for those cards.

Haymon, if I am right on the new estimated budget from reading that article, should have around the 90-100 million budget you stated.

      SHO 55-60 million
      FOX Primetime 25-30 millon
      FS1 15-20 million

So yeah, if FOX gets six primetime shows, then Haymon should still have a bigger budget than he has now for the FS1 shows. So the quality can improve there. Just won't reach SHO level, but that's fine. Impossible to put on 35-40 high level cards a year. Look at some of the crap ESPN is putting on to fill their slots.
I was coming to write a breakdown of what I thought the figures would be and then I see this post lol

Good stuff. I think you're in the ballpark here.

It's still hard to say with not many details out on the FOX deal. I think the SHO estimate is pretty solid though. Just with how much Haymon fighters make and on the average of 15 SHO cards, they have to be paying 45-50 million right now. I know Haymon fighters make money in other ways, but SHO covers most of it. If he wants to put on more cards, then he has to increase the budget. Three more cards equal around 10 million increase in budget.

Hopefully we hear more from the FOX deal soon.

        • Now can they get rid of Joe Tessitore? I am so tired of his pro-wrestling style of announcing.

Pretty sure there was never an issue with full exclusitivity. Pretty sure.

I mean again, I don't think it is a crazy demand or anything. It makes all the sense in the world for FOX to ask for it…. As it makes all the sense in the world for Haymon to reject that demand.

Btw, we can't be pretty sure of anything in these FOX negotiations with so little out. That's why I preface my posts on this matter with "if I had to guess" or "my best estimate" etc.

I'd bet the person who will be able to release the details if possible would be Coppinger who seems to have a good relationship with some of the PBC folks.

He's on ESPN, or do you mean Mauro Ranallo? If him, I actually don't mind him. Sure he goes overboard often, but he brings a nice energy to the broadcast.

So first the complaint is that PBC didn't put boxing back on free TV, now the complaint is that free TV doesn't matter because everyone has cable or internet?

Possibly. But if you were FOX, wouldn't you ask for it? From their perspective it made sense to at least make that demand.
