Run of what? Competition? Title reign? Wins?

Joe Louis had the best reign. 12 years and 25 defenses. Revenge win over Schmeling, a pair of wins over the great Billy Conn, a pair of wins over Walcott (one controversial, one clear), some other good fighters but a large number of bum (bum of the month club).

Marciano's reign may have been short but two wins over Walcott, two over Charles, a KO of reigning 175 champion in the legendary Archie Moore is excellent too. People **** on his resume but a lof of modern fans like to give credit just for getting names (i.e Mayweather has Pacquaio, De La Hoya, Mosley , Canelo has Mosley, Cotto etc but those names are even better.

As a fan who grew up in the 90's I think Holyfield fought a great run.

    Douglas for the undisputed
Foreman (who proved he had a lot in the tank)
    Cooper
    Holmes
    Bowe I & II
    Moorer I & II
    Mercer
    Tyson I & II

That was quite a run and IMO Holyfield has now became underrated as a Heavyweight great because he didn't have a dominant reign like Lewis, Klitshcko or even Tyson. He accomplished more IMO.
    Lewis I & II.

Ali's run of competition post his ban was incredible and added to his unbelievable displays in his first reign probably the reason why he's no worse than 1b in the divisions history.

      Wins over legends like...
      Liston x2
      Frazier x2
      Foreman
      Norton x2
      Patterson x2
      Foster
      Moore
And then other top wins over guys like...
      Folley
      Shavers
      Bunger x2
      Lyle
      Quarry x2
      Ellis
      Terrell
      Cooper x2
      Williams
      Spinks.

I agree 100%. I can't think of any other fighter who had to deal with so many elite opponents including 1 punch KO monsters like Liston, Foreman and Shavers.

Run of wins against good competition before losing yea, disagree with Louis and Marciano having a great run, especially the former, name wise for rocky? yeah but we all know the names he faced were all ancient.

holyfields greatest run was probobly a run of 3, tyson x2 then moorer?

Yeah especially considering he was past his best when he beat a lot of those top guys including Foreman, Frazier, Shavers etc.
I think it will be impossible for any HW to surpass Ali because the division was so deep during the 60’s and 70’s and Ali essentially beat every top HW of that era.

Walcott was a great fighter later in his career. He was reigning champion. Charles was still a good fighter at that point too though not prime and like I said Moore was still in the middle of his all-time run. Yes he was old but was still great.

All three of those were less past their primes than say Tyson was for Lewis. Maybe they were more like where Holyfield was in the Lewis fights. At least Walcott and Charles.
