How good was Baby Joe Mesi??

He was 36-0 with 29 knockouts. Some good wins over Jirov, DaVarryl Williamson and Monte Barrett. That fight against Jirov changed his career, he was lucky to survive the 10th round and was then suspended. He was able to regain his boxing license and return to the ring after suffering a brain bleed but decided to retire in 2008 because he wanted to run for the NY state senate.....

How would you rate Baby Joe Mesi, he was very hyped up back then.

He lost to all the decent American heavyweights in the amateurs. He had the record he had because he was a good looking white kid that was being built up.

This, plus he was getting destroyed at the end of the Jirov fight, knocked down a couple times late, just survived to the bell, got the decision, then had to sit out a couple years due to the beating.

Not that good really. A solid fighter, not overly skilled and very hittable. I actually saw him live once whilst vacationing in Puerto Rico. He didn't really impress that much and I don't remember seeing him after that.

If he was fighting Wilder he'd be considered an ATG great by Wilder fans though.

He was another of the Great White Hype who got his arse handed to him and bleed from the Brain, who was never ever going to win a world title, yet i am sure the rednecks from good old usa think he was the rocky marciano 2nd coming
