If he took a fight while he was waiting, he would risk being deemed "unavailable" by the WBA and would lose his title shot. He's been patiently waiting for his shot for years. It's not like he wanted to have to wait this long.

Not sure who this guy paid off but he seems to be fighting for the WBA or WBO title. He hasn't fought since 2014 but he is getting a title shot at the regular belt?

When he fought Chagaev on short notice, he had a rematch clause. Chagaev tried to renege and Oquendo sued. A legal settlement guaranteed a title shot. He's been waiting for his shot ever since. Only person he "paid off" was his lawyer to make sure the rematch clause was enforced.

First of all, there's no such thing as a "regular" belt. It's the WBA World Heavyweight Championship. The championship won by Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis and many others. None of whom ever won the WBA Super Heavyweight Championship.

Fighters grow up dreaming of being champion of the world, not champion of the super. It's the super belt that the WBA promised to get rid of, not the world championship.

The WBA created a horrible mess, and for that reason, I personally stopped recognizing the WBA as a world title in 2001. I suggest others do the same.

But Oquendo is right, winning the WBA World Heavyweight Championship puts his name in the books with many greats. Greats that were never super champion, simply world champion.

Has nothing to do with real or fake. Charr is the WBA world champion. Joshua is the WBA super champion. The super championship commands more respect in the present, but if the WBA ever phases out titles as promised, it's the super title that is going away and the world title that will live on.
