Comments Thread For: Porter: Terence Crawford is already one of the best welterweights

On September 8th, former welterweight champions Shawn Porter (28-2-1) and Danny Garcia (34-1) will battle for the vacant WBC welterweight title. The title became available when the oft injured Keith Thurman vacated it and elected to keep his WBA title. Garcia-Porter takes place on September 8th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY and Showtime will televise the highly anticipated showdown.

I expect Porter to lose to DSG making a Porter vs Crawford fight more realistic than if he beat DSG.

I still think Garcia will wait out Thurman. There's too many easy PBC paydays for him like Berto, Alexander, Ortiz.

Crawford is without doubt the best fighter in the welterweight division. If he fights the elite at 147 he'll no doubt find it harder than he has to date but he'd be a solid favorite over them all including Spence IMO.

Unfortunately unless Thurman retires I think it's going to get the PBC guys in the ring whilst they still have each other.

id like to see him prove it. although that seems to be too much to ask. in 2018 we dont actually need anyone to prove it theyve just got to pass the eye test.

Who knew? What other nuggets of insight do you have, Shawn?

He hasn't fought anybody. He's 30 with no major victories on his resume at 140 or 147. He has a worse resume than GGG had at 30.

I have to agree with you. Spence is a great fighter, but he's not faced a truly great boxer. Crawford is slick, him and Loma both have great footwork, and ring generalship. Best pure boxers in the sport, now that Ward has retired. Both Crawford and Loma can knock you out too.

you call what ward did pure boxing?

You cannot hit below the belt, hold, trip, kick, headbutt, wrestle, bite, spit on, or push your opponent.

You cannot hit with your head, shoulder, forearm, or elbow.

You can't hold your opponent and hit him at the same time, or duck so low that your head is below your opponent's belt line.

Oh he's so pure! why did he have to do all this if he was such a great pure boxer? this is kind of the opposite of pure boxing. its doing everything but boxing to win.
