July 13, 2014:
To the surprise of many, Alvarez accepted a fight with Erislandy Lara, a skillful southpaw, and showed vast improvement as he claimed a split decision on Saturday night before a crowd of 14,239 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena...
"I came to fight. I didn't come to run. You don't win by running. You win by hitting," Alvarez said through a translator. "He definitely has a great jab but you don't win a fight like that by running..."
"Lara didn't come to fight. He's a great boxer, I respect him. But he has to throw more [effective] punches."
Lara, to the surprise of nobody, bitterly disputed the result.
"I 100 percent thought I won the fight," he said through a translator. "I felt I was totally in control. It didn't seem like he was doing anything. I know one thing, 100 percent I made him look bad in front of all of his people. Everyone knows I won the fight, no matter what they say."
Said Ronnie Shields, Lara's trainer, "That's bulls---, they robbed us..."
According to CompuBox punch statistics, Alvarez landed 97 of 415 punches (23 percent), including 73 percent of his power shots to the body, and Lara connected on 107 of 386 blows (28 percent)...
After the fight, Lara continued with the same disrespect toward Alvarez that he showed before the fight.
"I didn't respect him before the fight and that hasn't changed," he said. "I don't respect him now. I want a rematch..."
"I'll give him the rematch," Alvarez said mockingly, "when he learns how to fight."

Oh and let’s not forget his famous commentary on his distaste of Floyd’s style when he fought Maidana. "As far as the fight, what can I say? He kept running the whole night. He didn't really want to engage or take any risks," Canelo said. It’s running against Floyd but ‘movement” against the boogeyman. This is the very same argument Abel has made about Canelo almost to the T. Hypocritical for sure bro...
Sure i agree with Clenelos team but they are acting like Hypocrites...they Called what Floyd did to Nelo "Running" when he dominated him. Also when many people saw Lara outboxing Canelo they called it "Running". But now when the fans see Golovkin winning a fight vs Canelo that was ruled a draw they call it "movement"Comment

I don't remember Lara sitting on the ropes egging Canelo to come in??? Lara was suppose to be waybfaster and skilled yet his connect percentages were TERRIBLE!July 13, 2014:

Look at what Floyd did 2 fights before Lara. That's what a skilled technician can do... Just look at the compubox numbers.Comment

X2 I guess I didn't have to read far on this thread to find comments similar to what I was thinking. Canelo is being a hypocrite. It is obvious he changed his total game plan, style, and fight strategy to avoid GGG's power. I guess he fought smart, because standing toe to toe with GGG isn't a good idea.
GGG does need to cut off the ring better, and be a bit braver himself if he wants to KO Canelo. He himself fights differently when it is against an opponent he doesn't respect, like Vanes.
I hope the verdict is KO, so no controversy exists. Canelo is already ahead 118-110 on one card.Comment

Call it running, or call it movement. Either way, Canelo was losing rounds doing it. Also, if i recall, this is the same guy that was telling Canelo to stand in the center of the ringLast edited by GGG Gloveking; 08-23-2018, 06:57 AM.Comment
