Wilder was praised for being willing to go to Russia to fight him. Big difference.

Wilder agreed to fight him before all the drug test failures. Big difference. Povetkin hasn't looked the same since. So AJ is perceived to be fighting a lesser fighter. Older with fewer steroids.

AJ isn't ridiculed for facing Povetkin. He's ridiculed for pretending he wanted to face Wilder next, when the plan all along was really to face Povetkin.

No he didn't. Otherwise the fight would have happened. He failed a test and Wilder didn't fight him.

Re: the OP. The answer is simple; Boxing fanboys are biased and dumb. Joshua fans like Povetkin as an opponent and liked Fury as a potential foe whereas Wilder fans thought/think both are ridiculous fights with little significance. Wilder fans liked Povetkin and now love Fury as opponents and now Joshua fans think they are ridiculous fights with little significance.

Because they're idiots with an agenda. Only difference is that Povetkin is a year older and the fight is not on Povetkin's turf. Not a huge change.

Povetkin is still a top5 in the division and it's a fine fight.

Not given the circumstances and context. Had he fought Povetkin instead of Takam, you would be absolutely correct.

All about convenience to support an argument.

Most people regard Povetkin as up there as one of top heavyweights, certainly top 5 and arguably top3.

However you look at it is a tough opponent and one not to be overlooked, it's not a dead certain win like you could consider an Eric Molina or Dominic Brezeale

People have no issue with Povetkin per say. They are mad AJ/Hearn misled them to thinking Wilder was next. Now that its clear to most (see Dramshow's poll) that AJ is responsible for the AJ/Wilder fight not happening-they are not getting behind the AJ/Povetkin fight because its a let down.

Had Povetkin/AJ replaced Takam/AJ, I think people would be happy.

Fans are happy wilder/Fury is happening because Wilder went out and made a fight with the biggest name available once Hearn/AJ pulled the okie doke. AJ fans are mad that so many feel this is the better fight.

Wilder wasnt willing he lost a purse bid .

Ortiz failed two tests and we can say didnt look the same either ?

Differance is Ortiz is older then Povetkin and Wilder was saved by the bell so of course if Joshua defeats Povetkin easily he wont get credit , you'll just ignore that maybe its bc Joshua is that much better then Wilder .

You can cry all you like about Wilder not fighting Joshua but he AGREED to the terms but decided not to sign .

Because Wilder fanboys are hypocrites. They can't stop praising Wilder's great victory over the 39 former PED user Ortiz but they ridicule Joshua for fighting another 39 year old former PED user Povetkin. The truth is that both Ortiz and Povetkin are both good fighters and top 5 heavyweights. Wilder fans shouldn't change their tune about Povetkin now just because Joshua is facing him and not Wilder.
