Comments Thread For: Jennings-Dimitrenko ESPN Double Averaged 686,000 Viewers

ESPN's boxing doubleheader Saturday night drew better ratings than each of the three previous Top Rank cards televised live on the network this summer. Nielsen Media Research ratings released Tuesday revealed an average audience of 686,000 watched ESPN's two-bout broadcast from Ocean Resort Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey. In the main event, heavyweight contender Bryant Jennings got up from a fourth-round knockdown to drop Alexander Dimitrenko three times on his way to a ninth-round, technical-knockout victory.

Overall for ESPN cards the ratings are pretty trash, but still much better than their previous broadcasts as mentioned in the article. Top Rank just doesn't have enough big names to put on consistent good cards with good names. They tried putting on three mismatches in main events in July and then lets be real, Jennings has very little following. Lomachenko/Pacquiao/Crawford are their big guns and they put on very good numbers when on ESPN, that's it.

What type of headline is that? Lol

Those ratings are putrid btw. 600k on ESPN is no good by any objective measure.

It'll be very interesting to see how this relationship plays out when the UFC cards arrive in a few months.

That was a very corrupt stoppage. Somebody made a few dollars on that.

That's the only explanation for how bad that call was.

This has been the worst, a waste of time and money. Golden Boy has done absolutely nothing with their shot on ESPN

very interesting in that ESPN is so satisfied they just signed a 7 year extension with Top Rank

To be honest, that was more so because they needed content with the launching of ESPN+ and they wanted Top Rank's library which is insane. The ratings itself have been pretty damn bad. That's not debatable at all. But again, that is mainly due to having too many dates and not enough name fighters. And some of the name fighters they have are just arriving at the scene and the mismatches haven't helped.

Crawford's next fight better be on regular ESPN and not ESPN+.

Note how there's never been any mention of the value of Top Rank's deal with ESPN.
