No it was more the fact that Whyte didn't fancy the task of fighting Ortiz because he knew he'd most likely lose and miss out on a title shot.
It's so lame how everyone tries to spin everything on boxingscene according to their own bias.
Whyte ducked Ortiz because Ortiz is a very dangerous opponent. It's that simple. Nothing to do with ticket sales. You think Ortiz isn't a bigger name than Browne who Whyte has already headlined against?? Sure....

Are you sure you are with a brain? Someone was strip off his belts due to his inability to defend them for almost 3yrs will come out from no where to reclaim the title. Are you normal?

Am sure Ortiz is not as dangerous as wilder but whyte wants wilder offering him a career purse and you think he is scared.
All the politics played by al-haymon and suliaman end us favoring breazeale and you want him to continue in that line despite being #1.

Common, I thought you are smarter than that.
Whyte made the right choice as far as am concern.

Now, let's look at it from this angle. Ortiz just lost a title fight against wilder and suddenly his next fight supposedly a giants whyte will be a final eliminator for the same belt.

        Are you that gullible?

Wilder won the belt in January of 2015. That's almost 4 years ago. Since then he has fought ONE mandatory which was a 40 year old Stiverne who hadn't fought in two years. The WBC has let him skip his mandatories and fight guys who they think he will make money for them. Now they are overlooking Whyte and Breazeale to let him fight Fury because they think the fight will make money. It's the same thing that the WBC did for Canelo and Cotto before that. Letting them fight whoever they wanted as long as the fights make money. Hell, Adonis Stevenson too. He hasn't fought a mandatory since he got that belt hahahah. So Wilder is going to be talking about AJ every day until the Fury fight (again, if the fight happens) yet AJ is steady training and selling out a stadium while fighting a top 3 guy. If you guys support Wilder, you are just idiots

Wilder vs Fury is obviously the biggest fight to be made in HW boxing. Anyone who can't see that must have a very clear view of reality.

So, what, should they postpone the fight for a year? Should it be a four-round fight with 3-minute breaks? I don't understand Fury (the self-proclaimed legend) fans or British fans in general. If you go around calling yourself a champion (belted, lineal, whatever), then why the hell do you need more time?!? Whatever people think of Wilder, he is the only one not making excuses. He is the only one who is behaving like a champion. How British fans can put up with the behavior of their champions, much less support it, is beyond any rational boxing fan's comprehension.

Fury's in perfect shape for what? Getting KTFO? It's basically saying "damn if he gets another tuneup he may be actually be in fighting shape and stand a chance". Get outta here.

ok, the wiki confirms that but it seems dumb given that he vacated all the other titles right before he was stripped of them around the time of his failed drug tests. Beating Fury earns Wilder the lineal title and NOTHING ELSE so I can't figure out why so many "fans" are talking like it will put Wilder ahead of AJ if he wins.

I also don't like how Fury's win over Klitschko is discredited except when it's to promote Wilder, then suddenly it becomes the division's defining victory lol

suppose Wilder's fans have to cling onto anything they can

Why do Wilder fans think that anyone who criticise Wilder is Joshua fanboy? Come off it guys. There are boxing fans out there
