Its obviously Tyson vs Ali as both are still the most popular boxing figures and they both were looked at as unbeatable at their best as its the most talked about fantasy match up as it spans decades of debating .

Anybody mentioning Wilder needs their heads examined ! Though this is Boxing Scene so ?

Jordan is considered the greatest or in the argument like Ali.
LeBron is considered a top 5 NBA Player all-time and best at his position.

Tyson is not even considered a top 5 heavyweight of all time let alone a boxer. Tyson vs Ali was a thing in the early 90s. But not Anymore.
Don't confuse fame with greatest because Tyson is one of the biggest names in Boxing ever.

The average sports fan isn't on boxingscene. They know Jordan. They know Tyson. Both were bigger than life and the absolute kings of their sport in the 80s and 90s. Nobody compares to the level of fame and success they had in that era.

The thread asks for a boxing comparison to the Jordan/LeBron debate. Ali/Tyson is boxing's equivalent if we're not trying to match the eras. If we're trying to match the eras, you'd have to go with Wilder as the equivalent of LeBron right now.
Heavyweights might be the biggest, but they're not the most skilled.

I don't know. I only watch and follow combat sports and mainly boxing. Maybe the debate over Mayweather's place among the all time greats is similar. Some including Mayweather himself claim he is the GOAT. I think he is great but not the GOAT or even top 10.

I read your thread too quickly. You wanted a debate between two boxers as to which one was the GOAT. The names I hear a lot for GOAT are Ali, SRR and among younger fans Mayweather.

Due to weight classes, such a debate does not exist in boxing.

There are skilled basketball players who are simply too small to hang in the big leagues. There are skilled tennis players who are simply not strong enough to hang in the big leagues. There are skilled football players who are simply too small or not strong enough to hang in the big leagues. Make any excuse you want. Manuel Charr is a better boxer than Terrence Crawford because Manuel Charr would beat Terrence Crawford in boxing. Obviously boxing is a very physical one on one sport where size plays a huge factor, but no matter how skilled somebody is, if they would lose every time, you can't say they're as good at the sport as the person they would repeatedly lose to at that sport.

                  ali and robinson

and honestly, i'm starting to think ali's proponents have a leg to stand on. the guys' resume is absolutely astounding. he just kept coming back and getting historically meaningful W's. and at his peak he si the best fighter i have ever seen on good quality film.

ali when he fought cleveland willams was the best fighter i have ever seen.

Name me a skilled basketball player not in the NBA because he's small?

Anthony Bennett, considered one of the biggest busts in history, had skills, but he was too small to play in the post in the NBA, and so those skills were worthless.
