AJ would have more accomplishments than the winner of the Fury vs Wilder fight in less time and fewer fights and that winner would only be the WBC champ and not the lineal champ. Fury vacated ALL his titles in October 2016 and then was no longer a champion of any kind including lineal. You can't vacate titles and remain champion. It doesn't work that way and it never has and never will. Ring is very big on this lineal stuff and still has Canelo as lineal champ after almost everybody has recognized GGG as the real champ. As of right now Ring has the world heavyweight title vacant so they clearly DO NOT consider Fury or anyone else the lineal champion now. AJ is the number 1 contender, Wilder is 2nd, Povetkin is 3rd, Ortiz is 4th, Whyte is 5th, Parker is 6th, Breazeale is 7th and Fury is 10th. If you think Ring's rankings are worth a damn then AJ has already defeated the number 5 and number 6 and number 7 contenders and will soon fight the number 3 contender. Not too shabby.
If and when the winner of Fury vs Wilder fights AJ the winner of that fight will become the true champion and the lineal champion. Until then there is no lineal champion. It is vacant. Go to Ring who loves this lineal stuff and see their current heavyweight rankings. The heavyweight title is vacant with no lineal champion. AJ and Wilder are the number 1 and number 2 contenders. As long as AJ remains an undefeated champion and is not retired nobody is the lineal champion until they beat him in the ring and the man who beats him must himself be ranked number 2. Number 1 fighting number 2 is how new lineal champions are established. Fury was lineal champion but he gave the title up in October 2016 when he vacated all his titles. I know many of you want to keep Fury the lineal champion forever because he is the man who beat the man but Ring does not agree with you. Wlad did not become the man by beating the man who beat the man. He became the lineal champ by one by one winning all the belts not by beating a recognized lineal champ.
