Did Wilder's Win Over Ortiz Impress you?

The comeback was cool after the ref gave him a bunch extra time after be almost got knocked out. But he was losing rounds and getting outworked by a 50 year old who was OFF roids. Poor performance other than him getting his second wind after Ortiz punched himself out

he was losing rounds to gerald washington too...and getting outworked by him too...till washington got knocked out just like ortiz did

also i think some of the AJ fanboys have a hard time understanding what "out on his feet" means...wilder wasnt "out on his feet" like others here have mentioned...if he were he would have lost and been knocked out...guys that are "out on their feet" go down or get stopped...wilder finished the round on his feet and never left them....LOL

Eh, I think it was a decent win and Ive always been a Ortiz fan but he is obviously on the slide at 39. He gassed and Wilder got him. Wilder is a highly athletic bazooka, he has a very limited skill set aside from 1-2. The truth is if Fury is in good fighting shape he will probably win a stinker against Wilder although I have gone on record saying I think Fury might stop him late. Wilder's athleticism has carried him to this point, Im not sure he has tried to improve his game at all.

I think Wilder drastically improved his game until up to the first Stiverne fight. I think that was his ceiling and this is as good as he gets.

Saying that he's began to stagnate slightly since then, apart from Ortiz he's not really been up against challenging opponents.

I was impressed for a couple
Reasons

Ortiz along with Fury are probably the most skilled fighters in the division. Ortiz has been avoided for years by most of the HW ls with any sort of name because he’s skilled and has no fan base, so he’s easy to dodge and no one would care or put up a fuss

Wilder chased the fight even after Ortiz popped. Seldom do you see fighters go after the toughest fight if it’s not about $ just to prove their the best and Wilder did that so he should get props

I was also impressed how he recovered after round 7. the ref could have stopped it and most people wouldn’t complain. So he showed the stones of a Champion and willing to battle through adversity to get the W

He was getting outboxed and should have been down on the cards , not by that much though because he KD Ortiz and should have gotten another 1 in the 2nd I believe ( probably to be expected ) but he has the divisions greatest equalizer

Great fight from both , great performance , answered a lot of questions regarding Wilder. How can you not be impressed

Yes, chasing the fight that the other heavies were all - and even still are - avoiding was a good look from Wilder.

Whilst again showing that technically he remains raw, the fight also showed that he has good fighting spirit and carries his fight ending power into later rounds.

How can you be impressed with a win that needed the intervention of the doctor to give you a massive breather because your opponent was on the verge of knocking you out? A KO to a washed up cuban pensioner with high blood pressure?

Well people need to make up their minds.....if Ortiz was a boogeyman and Klitschko / Wilder were scared of him before the fight, what does that mean after Wilder beat him?

Good win but no knockout so not that impressive.

I was impressed TBH, but more how he survived the onslaught from Ortiz than how he actually finished the fight.

In terms of his overall ability, impressive is not a term that is appropriate.

Wilder's technique can be compared to an horny orangutan high on crystal meth...

Ortiz was ON that night and you can tell he did his homework. Wilder overcame a much smarter and more skilled opponent. Very impressive.

No one expected his chin to be that durable either.

I was not impressed that Ortiz was winning the fight and almost knocked Wilder out and I didn't like the ref giving Wilder extra recovery time that was unfair and wrong. I was impressed that Wilder showed ruggedness and determination surviving heavy blows and coming back strong to end the fight with his fast powerful right hand.

I was impressed on his resiliency. That shows true character in a champion...same could be said about Joshua against Wladamir.
