There’s two flaws here. Somebody work with me.

1. The “draw” with Alvarez should count as a title defense because he kept the belts. For some reason that doesn’t count. YET...

2. Hopkins had a no contest vs. Robert Allen which should NOT count as a defense but they count it for some reason.

Count the wins and you have 19 plus the no contest which actually also stops the streak. Someone please explain.

Golovkin's middleweight title record being touted as equal to Hopkins' is laughable. He held a "regular" WBA title for many of those early defenses. If it was any other fighter than GGG, #boxing fans would be dumping on him for the PR push.

The lines are blurred here. Some people will say GGG has equalled the record and some will say he hasn't. For me, he hasn't because I don't regard the WBA "regular" belt as a legitimate world title. One thing is for sure, it's the WBA who are responsible for the confusion #boxing

WBA regular may be the most lightly regarded title in today's era, but it's still a legitimate title. Are you saying only the WBA 'super' should count? If it was the IBO, I'd agree with you, but the WBA is one of the four recognized belts.

Other than fighting into an advanced age, the title defense streak is pretty much all Hopkins has to hinge his legacy upon.

I think beating world champions like Tarver, Pascal, Pavlik etc, some 20 years younger than him, when he was in his 40's and even 50's is a pretty big 'hinge' for his legacy. It doesn't matter if you can't stand the guy, you have to respect his career.

If a boxer wins a WBA title, he is a a recognized World champion. I'm not saying I agree with 4 separate sanctioning bodies, but it is still one of the legitimate belts. If it was an interim title, or an IBO belt, I would agree that it wasn't.

I'm not even a GGG fan, although I prefer him to Canelo the PED cheat. I already said I don't agree with the WBA having more than one belt, yes it's ******, but you're missing my point. The WBA regular is a recognized title, regardless of whether you, me or anybody else like it. If it was the interim, no. It's the full belt though.
It's clear you don't want to accept this simple fact because you don't want to acknowledge GGG having the record.
