He's already appreciated by boxing fans.
Even if you don't like him you have to appreciate his skills.

He’s already considered a legend. Top 5 all time. As time goes by his status will only get better.

I mean how many belts per division are there now ? It’s a bit like Pacquiao getting his 8th weight division title at 150lbs from margarito. Fighters are able to target weak belt holders and claim there multiple weight champions *cough* Adrien Broner
sergey lipinets had a belt. the man beat no one. no one. but that vaulted him up the rankings and made that a "great" fight for mkey when in reality it was a farce against an unproven fighter. its the dumbing down of boxing when you just throw out numbers like they mean anything. we all know who the danger guys were and floyd avoided them all when it mattered. its like beating the golden state warriors in 5 years. who is going to care? they are great now not in 5 years. maybe they will stil be pretty good but obviously it wont be the same. pretending it is the same is for fanboys.

i think it will get worse. i think people are still emotional when discussing him and are giving him way more credit than deserved simply for continuing to win without really breaking down the quality of his fights or opponents. in the future people wont have that emotional attachment and are just going to look at his resume and how good his opponents were when he actually fought them and see the truth. a guy who stood on the periphery of boxing looking in and only participating when the moment suited him. if they delve that far. im sure there will be boxrec idiots in the future as well who never watch fights or pay attention to who is prime or not. they will be annoying as hell.

Oh please with the "his legacy is going to fade" nonsense!

His legend is only going to grow.

If nothing else, the Hall of Famers defeated number will see to that.

Right now, it stands at 2.

It will definitely get to at least 7.

There's a better than even chance it gets to 10.

And when it is all said and done, maybe 15 or so years from now the number could get as high as a dozen.

10 to 12 Hall of Fame fighters defeated. Decisive wins over the other 2 or 3 that were greats in his era.

I don't see his reputation getting weaker over time thru all that...

Give it about 20 or so years, and the legend will have morphed into something uncontrollable. Nobody is truly appreciated until much later.

The only skill he show on the biggest fight of his life was his hugging and running skills.

Even though I wasn't even born yet during Larry Holmes' prime days from the late 1970s-early 1980s, I have read many books, watched many youtube fight footages of him, and watched many documentaries about him and how many boxing fans used to hate Holmes since he brutally beat a severely declined Muhammad Ali, claimed that Rocky Marciano couldn't carry his jockstrap(implying that Marciano was overrated and Holmes himself was the superior boxer), and has basically been living under Muhammad Ali's shadows. It wasn't until near Larry Holmes' retirement and the very huge decline of the Heavyweight Boxing competition that fans started to like and appreciate him.

Do you the the same thing could happen with Floyd Mayweather Jr in the future now that he's once again retired since his McGregor fight?
Maybe. Maybe not. Regardless he is already highly regarded. By many fans, writers and experts. If the situation doesn’t get better than it already is it’s totally fine imo.

Floyd rose to the peak of his fame in the social media era where everything gets put into detail and viewed in a microscope. Every issues in negotiations, comments and demands go viral online.
I have been there every step of the way, as may of us, so it’d be a big leap to just neglect all that when it comes to our judgment in the future.

The gloves negotiations/my health comes first issues/i’m a rich coward/self preservation/the ducks accusations/the being shook to margarito vids that are still on youtube/cheating marquez to the scales/fighting his best opponents possible at a time when it didn’t already matter most sucks. It’ll be a difficult pill to swallow for those who have been keen at everything that took place in the prime of his career.

With that said, the future fans will probably look into his resume on paper and highlights vid and be completely amazed with it no doubt. So yes he’ll be regarded highly in the future.

But to those who have been there throughout his journey, they will always know more. They will always know the issues, the little tweaks here and there, the negative stuffs. The truth and story behind every amazing win in his resume.

Regardless, i still have a high regard on Floyd. But will that increase in the future? Will I suddenly be a fanboy in the future? Will I suddenly forget the negative stuffs and say “fk it”? NO. I’m about 98% sure I am just being fair.

But yep there will be fanboys that will be born everyday.

I think in years to come and for generations he will be in the history books as a boxing ATG forever.

You will be nothing but dust, the logic in you is such a disaster handicaped by your own walls of illusion, your mind operates in an altered reality, that's pretty fkd up when you think about it !
