not arguing that Martinez or Lara would be better

just that Ortiz and Guerrero, both ranked #3, were not bad opponents

like I said, they were a better than who #2 was fighting

Remember when guerrero was being hyped to beat manny because he beat him up in sparring.

Then Mayweather beats him and he becomes a bum

And that Mayweather was thinking of fighting Maidana and so it was interpreted as a DUCK of Guerrero...once fight ended...what a bum

There was nobody else to fight though. The top guys were Mosley, Cotto, Matthyse, Bradley, Pacman, and Canelo (around 147).

Matthyse lost in his showcase fight on the undercard against Danny Joke Garcia when Floyd put on a clinic against Canelo. Even Freddie Roach said the Canelo fight was 50-50 going into it. It's on YT, honestly.

Mosley and Cotto had already been beaten. There were no emerging fighters at JMW (maybe Lara, but he lost to Canelo and more importantly had no fan base) and JWW was Danny Garcias and Danny turned down the Floyd fight...the ONLY other guy would've been Sergio @ 154/160 (since he had beaten Pavlik, PWill, and JCC).

Ghost and Maidana were far better opposition than Algieri and Brandon Rios - that's for sure.

So - no - Floyd did not fight the stiffest competition at every turn in his career, but it was the most challenging lineup in the last 10-15 years. Only person that rivals Floyd in terms of "difficulty of opponents" might be Canelo or Lomachenko

No. Pac fought guys at tail ends...DLH, Mosley, Margarita, Hatton, Rios, Matthyse...it was all designed to look good bc these were (former) household names. Coincidentally....none of those fights were competitive. And theres a reason for that...and it's not because Manny was "special" though he was.

Steve Forbes broke DLH orbital bone - at 154 - before Manny fight

Hatton KOd by Floyd and battered by journeymen level fighters afterward before getting stopped. Again.

Mosley gets whooped by Floyd (11-1 route) and then draws against..the mighty Sergio Mora??? Yeah, he was cooked. Done. Well done.

Rios loses to Abril and splits wars with Alvarado before moving up in weight and...fighting in China? Wat?

Margarito - this mythical stalker puncher with a chin of titanium..."peaks" against Cotto before getting slaughtered by washed up Shane Mosley and then...earning a UD against a journeyman before fighting at a catchweight against Manny.

Matthyse happened 5 years too late and showed throughout his career he was a limited stalker (just like Margarito) who - when he needed to box - offered nothing.

Manny had a "decent-good" run, but his matchmaking was what was actually "great". Also, during all of this he refused to do drug testing....its like murdering someone with gloves then refusing to try on those gloves (as proof) during your defense hearing.

What a joke - even to this day. Loma and Canelo have similar runs against pretty good competition. No other recent fighter compares - case could be made for Andre Ward SS into Dawson.

Barrera twice, Morales three times, Marquez four times...?

I am talking about whole his career, not only 147.
