Comments Thread For: Deontay Wilder: Povetkin Fight Will Be Difficult For Joshua

Deontay Wilder doesn't consider Alexander Povetkin the easy way out for Anthony Joshua. While Wilder obviously feels he is a more dangerous opponent for the British superstar than Povetkin, the unbeaten WBC heavyweight champion expects Povetkin to give Joshua trouble when they meet September 22 at Wembley Stadium in London. Joshua (21-0, 20 KOs) is heavily favored to beat the older, smaller Povetkin (34-1, 24 KOs), but Wilder could see the experienced Povetkin pulling off an upset.

Povetkin will give Joshua problems, possibly hurt him.

I can’t wait to see it, people can try to downplay this fight all they want but I for one am excited.

People (Wilder fans) are criticising this fight, but Povetkin is still a dangerous opponent. Klitschko was good enough to nullify him, but Joshua does not have those skills (tying up, leaning on people).

I expect another cagey fight from Joshua who will try to box and move and stay behind the jab.... Povetkin will bob and weave and try to land big hooks. Joshua will be the one on his bike like he was against Klitschko.

Joshua will fight "scared", just like he did against Parker. McCracken will almost certainly model his game plan along the lines of Klitschko's against Povetkin; grab, hold, try to tire him with size and weight.

I just can't see how Povetkin is going to deal with the height and reach difference.

Hope it will be difficult, nobody wants to watch easy fights (get the hint Wilder).

unfortunately thats what will happen..should be a boring fight unless povetkin can close the distance to work inside.

I disagree with Wilder here. The unjuiced version of Povetkin is far less dangerous.

Wilder’s last fight was against the guy nobody wants to fight. It appears his next fight is gonna be against the lineal champ. What else do you want him to do? Sign a contract stipulating him not using his right hand in a fight against AJ?
