Kovalev's chin is weak.

Kovalev took plenty of very heavy shots throughout his career. That right hand from Alvarez landed perfectly, and would take out pretty much any guy. Kovalev was not that bad after the first knockdown. His mistake was getting back up and starting to trade again with Alvarez, instead of going into a defensive survival mode to wait out the round. It was the second knockdown that really finished him.
It might have been a very different outcome had Kovalev survived the round and recomposed himself during the break.
But this is boxing and those things happen.Comment

Ward stopped him with nut punches and a helpful referee and that has nothing to do with his chin. Boone dropped Ward and KOed Stevenson so their chins must be as weak or weaker than Kovalev's chin. Kovalev had a hell of a run as the light heavyweight champ of the world to have this weak chin you are claiming he has. Alvarez bombed him with some perfectly placed hard fast punches. If Alvarez hits any light heavyweight that hard, clean and often they are going down. Quit taking away from Alvarez's devastating KO and blaming it on kovalev's weak chin. Kovalev was a 4 to 1 betting favorite to win so the pro odds makers clearly didn't think he had a weak chinComment

If you hated to say it then you wouldn't say it. You enjoy saying it and took the time to start a thread saying it.Comment

I don't think he has a particularly weak chin. Prior to fighting Ward he was never really that badly hurt. He took some huge punches off of Pascal and walked it off, the few times he was knocked down were down to being caught off balance more than anything. However, I do think his defense sucks. If you're going to fight a big LHW like Alvarez or even a sharp puncher like Ward and you leave yourself open with your hands around your waist and no head movement, they're going to nail you with a big shot and hurt you. He got away with it against guys who were forced onto the back foot out of fear of Kovalev because they rarely got to nail him with anything super hard and usually he was the one leading off, but Ward and now Alvarez didn't fall into that trap and led off with big straight rights to the head, and look what happened.Comment

Nobody has ever claimed he has an iron chin.
He recover is poor and when he is rocked he doesn't have the survival tricks to make it through the round.Comment
