I think he definitely gassed, it was very noticeable after the 4th round, a round in which he definitely won, that he was just about done, I think the fact that Alvarez didn’t wilt also got to him mentally, typical bully mentality they capitulate when what normally works for them doesn’t.

I think he should retire, he’s had a great career, and there’s a lot of young lions emerging at 175, can only see the same happening again.

Kovalev never recovered from his last knockout loss.

But it is true, when you are fighting someone no one has ever heard of, there is no VADA testing, unless its a sanctioned WBC match. But Superman has held that title for years and years. Could be Kov just isn't that good. Guess we will never know.
You know I love it when the VADA crowd has to face the fact a guy they love doesn't test so kudos to you. Respectfully, I don't think it's the lack of VADA testing because Kov was enrolled in the program. You are wrong but your post made me do some research.

Meldonium is perhaps most well-known for its role in sports doping. This article will explore the story of its origin and its broad medical uses in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, as well as its uses and effects on the body of the sportsmen who used it.

G back to Jan 1, 2016-that is when WADA banned meldonium because of evidence of its use by athletes with the intention of enhancing performance. In the study above, published in Drug Testing and Analysis in December 2015, summarized the following about meldonium:

[It] demonstrates an increase in endurance performance of athletes, improved rehabilitation after exercise, protection against stress, and enhanced activations of central nervous system (CNS) functions."

Sine Jan 1, 2016 Kov is 4-3. Pascal quit in Jan 2016. Ward 1 was Nov. IMO Kov won but clearly he tired late and after a huge lead. The 2nd fight Kov tires and quits. He then KO's 2 bums he was way better than and then gets KTFO.

I think it was age that caught up to Kov, just like it does all boxers but it is interesting stamina issues have plagued him since WADA placed meldonium on the banned list.

That said, Alvarez weathered the storm and landed the right shot and followed up exactly as he should have. I hope he makes a lot more money now and I hope he has enough honor to give Kovalev a rematch.
Agreed, this is boxing and anything can happen. That's why many love it. Kovalev was doing well, outboxing Alvarez, and then out of nowhere, Eleider throws a classic 1-2 punch combo that Sergey didn't see coming. The Krusher got Krushed. It will be interesting to see how he reacts to this loss. Hopefully, he won't view his losses to Ward and this loss in a cumulative way & be discouraged. The Ward losses were questionable, but in this loss, Kovalev simply failed to defend against a sudden surprise attack and got caught. It's something he can learn from and come back from as a challenger, if he's determined enough.

Doubtful. Stevenson ducked Kovalev and refused to fight Alvarez before he showed such devastating KO power. No way he faces him now.
