Comments Thread For: Kenny Porter: They call Danny Garcia a cherry picker for a reason

Over the past few years former two-division champion Danny Garcia (34-1) and his father/trainer Angel have laughed off criticism that they "cherry pick" their opponents. The "cherry picker" talk began when Garcia blew out an over matched Rod Salka in 2014. Salka had campaigned at lightweight and moved up to a catchweight of 142 pounds for the bout. Fights against past their primes Paulie Malignaggi, Robert Guerrero, Brandon Rios and against Samuel Vargas did little to diffuse that criticism

Kenny Porter is right. These are typically, the fighters that Danny tends to avoid; Young, strong, at their physical peaks, at full in strength and in their primes. Most of his victories are the antithesis of these kind of fighters or the exact same opposite of these type of fighters.

This all depends how Danny deals with Porter's head.

Porter's resistance has been cracked and he may visit the the canvass. I don't know if Danny can avoid Porter's head to get to his body.

Danny Garcia is certainly an interesting guy. His resume' at the top is deeper than most and he came up very tough for a prospect, but he has mixed in some bad opponents in there. This will be his fourth fight as the underdog or even odds. Was close odds against Holt as well. You can't really say that about many other top fighters in the sport. Some of it has to do with him being as vulnerable as he is, but props to him if he beats Porter. Would be one hell of a resume.
