James Toney looked exactly the same against Roy as he did in any other fight. People have this idea that he was some unstoppable killer that walked drained into that fight and it was some kind of anomaly. I get it, I used to be under the same impression. Toney is one of those guys who has a mythological reputation completely contradictory to his actual in-ring results.

That was the exact same James Toney as always. Roy was just better than the other types of fighters who gave Toney trouble or arguably beat him before that.

The last time Roy had been hit flush and hard by an opponent before the Tarver fights was in 97 by Montell Griffin in the first fight. The Del Valle punch didn't look as hard, but obviously it was enough to knock him down and daze him, but Griffin in the first fight was hitting roy flush with that left hook counter. He couldn't miss. And Roy was pfp the #1 fighter in the world above all competition. There was even talk of him fighting Lewis and Tyson but when Tarver, who had been chasing him for years, knocks him out, he was "old". He had been in absolutely no wars whatsoever prior to his first fight with Tarver. That was the first war he had ever been in lol. So it's not like he had his career beat out of him. he just never had a chin and he cherry picked for a large part of his career. And that leads me to believe that he was getting ko'd in sparring and didn't believe in himself during his career. We don't know

So you didn't watch the first Tarver fight I take it? Roy was no longer superman in that fight and I saw it right away. Hos reflexes we're super human like before. Roys prime ended after the Ruiz fight in my opinion and the eye test holds up.

Roy accepted the fight for obvious reasons and yeah, in 2010 it didn't matter whatsoever. And lol @ Hopkins feinting injury in that fight too to get an edge against a shot to sh@t Jones. Hopkins is an overrated, racist cheater. Imagine if GGG came out right now and said that he'd never lose to a black man. People would call him a **** and never watch another one of his fights again. Hopkins (Tito KO was iconic, plus his longevity all the way up 50 is downright remarkable)

Roy (I considered Bhop green when Roy got to him, but Toney was an impressive win. Although testing positive diminishes his accomplishments in my eyes)

Hopkins was older and had more fights than Roy at the time but he was green? Nobody mentions that it was also Roys first world title fight as well.

I can accept Manny being ranked over Jones, but not Hopkins. After all, Jones easily beat Hops when it mattered. the 2010 rematch was pointless and made no money and had no interest after Roy was ko'd by Danny Green.

Do you know how silly that sounds when you actually examine what's being said? Roy was the favorite in both fights against tarver. The 3rd time he obviously wasn't the favorite.

Ruiz at the time was considered a good fighter and had a world title. Nobody said he was an all time great but he had quality wins and was way bigger than Roy. Roy was a Jr. MW at one point. Let that sink in. Of course Roy was the favorite to beat Tarver you twit! But it was clear in the first fight how he couldn't let his hands go like he used to. That fight made Hopkins look like he was almost as shot as Jones. He fought so scared and dirty. That was a horrible, horrible fight.
