The idea that one has to fight in Vegas to validate their career is BS

I think some of the lustre has faded from Vegas as a fight location. This is in part due to boxing's loss of popularity in the US but I think it goes deeper than that.
Las Vegas itself has changed. Its lost some of its air of danger and become more of a theme park and convention destination. The crowds aren't particularly passionate and that impacts on the cards. If your at the fight because you love the fighter you'll be more engaged than if your killing time before you head back to the photocopier conference, or you'd sooner be at the tables but promised your other half a break for at least a couple of hours.
If I were a boxer I'd like the idea of headlining Vegas once but it would be below Madison square gardens or a stadium in front of my home support.Comment

Mayweather never fought outside his own country and mostly in his own town. He didn't seem to lack exposure...

Correct and last time I checked, Liam Smith isn't a big megafight.
Wilders biggest fight wasn’t in Vegas. His biggest purse wasn’t in Vegas either. Neither was Joshua Klitschko.
Wilder has never been in a big megafight, so Vegas hasn't necessarily been the most profitable place for him to fight. Wilder vs Joshua would make more in Vegas than anywhere else because it's a huge fight. Just like Canelo-GGG, Mayweather-Pacquiao, Mayweather-Canelo, Mayweather-McGregor, De La Hoya-Mayweather, De La Hoya-Pacquiao, Tyson-Holyfield I & II, Tyson-McNeely, De La Hoya-Trinidad etc.
All of the biggest fights of all time have been in Vegas except for Tyson-Lewis, which had to go elsewhere because Tyson lost his license.Comment

A big Vegas fight is something I'm sure every fighter wants still but the gap between regular fights and big fights these days in Vegas is huge. I went to Crawford-Horn, Ward-Kovalev I & II, Lomachenko-Walters, Crawford-Postol in the last two years and outside of those hotels or T-Mobile arena you'd have no idea there were even major prizefights happening and the crowds were nowhere near as fun as fights like Lomachenko-Linares or even Rigondeaux in NYC or big fights in Europe or even the Super Fly fights here in LA. Even in the hotels there wasn't much of a buzz. Compare it to Marquez-Pacquaio or Golovkin-Canelo for example and it's night and day.
Joshua-Wilder would be HUGE in Vegas though. I'd imagine there would be 10-15k Brits at least travelling for it and a genuine buzz down the strip. The ******** money in Vegas is big too on huge fights especially with nationalistic pride at stake.
Hopefully Vegas becomes the Boxing hotbed it once was and not just a Super Fights only town because certain fights like Hurd-Lara to use another recent one deserve bigger venues and better crowds.Comment

That is not the case for other parts of the world like say Great Britain. Nobody watches boxing in Great Britain except for Brits and other boxing fans around the globe. Other than that the typical casual fan hasn't even heard of these fighters; Let alone know who they are.
The only reason why Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. are as famous as they are on every continent and corner of the globe is because they fight in America while the other is both American and fights in America.Comment

vegas is the town for boxing dont think there is any doubt about that, money wize and to say u fought there
but its also enemy territory for a lot of fighters, unless u are the house fighter u probably need a KO, so in that sense its not so hot
wembley is joshuas vegas, he wont get any better than that, he might make a bit more money in vegas for a mega fight, but not that much more plus he wont have the ade byrds of this world to contend withComment

Does a win count for more depending on the location? Or is it the guy you beat more important?
The same people saying you have to win in vegas to be a star will tell you that belts dont matter, but keep telling everyone how many titles their favorite fighter has won.
Where a fighter get his win is irrelevant. Boxing is a world wide sport.Comment
