As far as roy jones, i think he was one of the best fighters in the history of the sport. In his prime, all his fights seemed easy. He never seemed to struggle, even against the best like hopkins.

I think hes a top 20 best P4P fighters ever. saying he is top 10 is really pushing it
Anything above top 50 is, in my opinion, is arguable, but I don't think anyone should dispute a top 50 spot. I think the ring had him at 17 at one point, and then he dropped just past 50 later on, after the Tarver losses.

Archie Moore was a better Light Heavyweight. And there's no shame being behind Old Mongoose on any list.

If he fought better competition throughout his career, it would be easier to rank him. but we have to settle on what we know about him for sure, which is what makes ranking Jones jr so hard

I think hes a top 25 best P4P fighters ever. saying he is top 10 is really pushing it

Hahahahahah you tool go watch more of Hatton.

The weird thing about ranking Jones is I can see him as a Top 10 p4p great (based mostly on his ability because he was so far ahead of his opposisitino in most cases); but I can't honestly put him at #1 at any of the divisions he fought it...excepty MAYBE Super-middleweight....because I feel you need to see a guy really tested and overcome it to beat out the competition for the #1 slot. To me, seeing a guy battle back against adversity is that extra "umph", ya know....and Jones never had to do that, with the exception of the first Tarver fight.

Jones beat Toney, Hopkins, Hill, McCallum (even though he was old), Reggie Johnson, Montell Griffin, Thomas Tate, Merqui Sosa, current top light-heavies Eric Harding & Clinton Woods, and Ruiz (not the best heavy; but a heavy with notable wins none-the-less); but he never had to battle from behind like Robinson, Moore, or Monzon.

If only the fights with Eubank, Benn, McClellan, or DM could have been made....or even a rematch with Hopkins in 2001 or 2002, we'd know more about Jones. Damn shame, really.

Definitely one of the best of the last 20 years...a top 40 p4p fighter all-time.

The only thing that hurt him was his lack of competition...but he still beat 3 HOF fighters. He is a top 10 light heavyweight as well.

o, i thought we were talkin about if he retired after that first loss. like a prime roy jones. i still say hes up there, maybe top 30. Again, its really hard to rank him because he never fought a really great inside fighter or anything like that.

I think he could have beaten a really good inside fighter, so thats why i rank him so highly, but because he never did its hard to judge. He could have done a lot more with his career IMO.

Personally I agree with you on everything apart from the top 25 thing - Roy Jones has gotta be placed top 10 p4p without a doubt, he may have had alot of sub par opponents but he has also fought and BEATEN some hall of famers. He was No 1 P4P for 10 years and dont forget the fact that he was world champ at 4 different weights and I aint being rude but that deserves top 10!!!!

What would you be saying if he had retired after Ruiz, because the fact is he shot himself by trying to lose so much weight trying to get down to light heavyweight again.

Everyone makes very good points but i like this one. you have to look at him taking and owning 4 divisions. yea he only fought one fight in HW but he could have had more than one title. yes the vitali and wlad would beat roy on pure strength and ungodly height advantage same with lewis. but roy could beat everyone else. you have to look at it like this though. ali is one of the greatest i will give you that. but apart from all his fights he is REALLY known for who has he fought?? i agree with HW being a hell of alot tougher back than. but why cant people look at what roy did in the ring? he went rounds without getting hit. wheather you are a bad fighter or not that is still very very very hard to do. he has gone how many title fights without losing A ROUND. again something that is very hard to do. you cant fault the guy for fighting maybe bum fighters but they did have titles. i will always say that tarver beat a worn out jones. he messed his body up sooo bad for the first fight. the second fight tarver landed one punch. roy said he could have continued but said if he would have argued with the ref than he would have been looked at as making excuses which doesnt matter anyway bc we have a hell of alot of haters on this site. the johnson fight he didnt fight plain and simple. the thrid tarver fight was just to prove he can still go twelve rounds. but you have to look at what he did. besides what if he comes back and is a champ again?? what will people say than?? you have to rank him atleast in the top 10 imo. but like i said this about everyones thoughts glad to see so many people commented and there was no hating.

I gotta say, Im a girl and the only reason im into boxing is cos my other half (Elgaringo) loves it, I used to despise the sport but now I love it. I remember seeing Roy for the first time ever against Richard Hall and after that fight I was his biggest fan, to this day I have never seen such a mastercalss of boxing skill!! He may have been a nobody but Roy made sure everybody knew it!!

He has defeated 17 world champions in his title reign.
A prime Roy Jones is something to behold.
Anyone who doesnt think Roy was on of the best in his prime is either delusional or intensly biased.
