Matthysse has a history of quitting over black eyes. Brook had broke orbital bones. Matthysse had black eyes. Against Postol he quit. Why would anyone be surprised he quit again?!? He wanted that payday, he never took it seriously, he was more than happy to get that money and quit. Actually Vargas did physically appear a lot more muscular in his fight with Oscar. Juan Marquez clearly looked WAY more muscular in his 4th fight with Manny. Pacquiao did NOT in my opinion look any different other than the fact that he finally fought somebody his size rather than the large welterweights he's been used to since climbing weight classes. But I guess we will see when the tests come back

Matthysse simply put, made some fundamental errors, perhaps even cardinal errors:

1. He didn't move away from Manny's power hand, instead, he did Pacquiao a favour by moving to his right, therefore giving the southpaw a perfect target.

2. His stance was lacking, with his chin over his front foot, lead leg almost straight.

3. He failed to let his hands go, and allowed Manny to dictate every facet of the fight. He actually half the work for the past-his-prime legend, instead of at least planting his feet and throwing combinations.

All that being said, I don't agree with those who say he quit. No way Lucas quit, he just didn't adjust, took too many shots, couldn't get into a rhythm, and was put into two minds - which is a very bad place for fighter to be mentally - unsure of whether to attack or defend, go for broke, try and take him into the later rounds.
