For people who dislike Roy, thats fine. But the ones that deny his ability in his prime are just haters. There are fighters that I dont really care for, but I wont deny the fact that they are great boxers.

          Good post and dead on.

I never liked Lewis when he was active but he was a great fighter and a great champ. Denying his skills would be asinine.

Look at the Ring's top 10 list of fighters for any division Roy was in at any given time and it's likely that he's only fought about 2-3 of them... usually at the lower end of the division.

The guy looks superb, but then so does Floyd Mayweather. Back in the day fighters proved themselves in the ring by fighting the best out there. Those two didn't/don't, and so can never be regarded as all time greats IMO.

So the question being, other than the really low weight divisions where there guys like Pac, and Barrera, which fighters do you think actually do that anymore (fight the best)?

how can you say that roy didnt fight anyone????? he had how many titles????? he beat champs. if they had a belt than they were doing something right. dont even bring up the bums over seas who are to much of bitches to come to USA and fight. its an outrage that people say this **** when your right people were calling him superman and the best P4P in the world and all that stuff and now that he lost a few fights your all off his banwagon come on now. what happens if he comes back and beats this prince dude beats tarver and johnson than what are all you going to say??? that he is still a bumb when HBO praised tarver for winning rematches well here is the chance. roy is still in my mind one of the best to ever go down. not saying the best but one of them. its not easy moving in weight like he did and really never losing until he messed his body up and went back down in weight.

Did I even mention anyone from overseas? ("Yo, they need to come to the States to prove they can box, LMAO, owned!") No I didn't.

Look, if Antoine Byrd and co. are good enough for you, then great.

But I'd hate to see a Roy-style career with other boxers... like an Ali that never fought Frazier or Foreman, or a Ray Robinson that only took on the No.10 in the division.

You don't get to be a real great by LOOKING good. Too many people who follow Roy are boxrec junkies.

So, Castillo, Corralles, Jesus Chavez, Angel Manfredy, and an inspired Zab Judah are all garbage? Before Zab ****ed up the Baldomir fight he was considered a top fighter, and he was ruling the division, then he lost an incredibly close fight to a guy he should have walked over. It happens sometimes. Floyd has a lot of time to put a lot of top fighters on his list. And, if you're gonna bash Floyd, you should throw Hatton's name in there, too, because he hasn't done **** except beat an old KT, and that's nothing compared to what Floyd has done.

I agree with your second post, and can see why you would discredit Roy, a lot of people do, but you shouldn't start that with the younger generation until their time is up, I don't think, because you really don't know if they'll continue the way they're going. And, if you absolutely HAVE TO do that to the younger generation, at least be fair, and not such a homer, and throw your boy in there too, because he's as big a dodging ***** as anyone else you've mentioned.

Okay, first of all - scrap all the Hatton talk. He AIN'T my boy. Just because I'm saying that Floyd is overhyped and undermatched does not automatically mean I'm saying that Hatton is a P4P great with a peerless resume. You know how you don't have to like every fighter on the face of the planet just because they're an American? It works that way here too. A little less perjorative prejudice if you please.

As for Floyd's competition, you have to go back FOUR YEARS for his last serious challenge. No, I don't consider a bizarrely overrated Zab Judah (who did better than expected, and had five rounds on my card) to be a great operator. This is the thing that bugs me about people like Floyd and Roy... they have the god-given talent to take on anyone, but they choose to go through the Sharmba Mitchells and Arturo Gattis of this world. I like both, but in terms of a meaningful career it's like they're throwing it all away...
