roy jones should have retired while he was ahead

imagine if roy would have just
retired after he beat ruiz and
won that heavyweight belt. he would
have been seen as one of the greatest.
now since all them beatings he got nobody
    even respects him. damn shame.

jones aint one of my favorites
but damn he is treated like a
        pure punk these days. Nobody
respects him, when just 2 years ago
        they were callin him Superman.
it is weird how the tables can turn
        on someone so fast

The tables have only turned in the eys of those who disliked Jones all along. In the eyes of the rational man, Roy is still a great, historically. We all know he is not great NOW, but that doesn't take away from the fact that he was.

Also, you're wrong about the respect thing. Roy has gotten plenty of respect in here and in boxing. Check Diego's thread about 'excuses'.

Roy kind of had a plan. After he beat Tarver he wanted to take on Tyson and retire. THEN he would've been up there with the greatest. But he gave Tarver a rematch and was winning till he was caught. He just went on for too long. And it really cost him. Makes me sad cause he's one of my all time favorites.

But there have been many greats who were in his position. One loss can damage a great. Jeffries never lost untill he fought someone else and his career is overshadowed by it. There are Many examples.

Amazing that a guy with Calzaghe and Hatton in his avatar can say that about Roy

                    No.

And I don't believe you for a second. Most people in school don't even know who Roy Jones is. If they truly laugh then that's too bad for em. They know nothing of RJJ in his prime.
