If I was getting robbed by Arum, I would be hesitant to sign with another promoter too!

      January 27, 2017:

Garcia was on the track to becoming a superstar in the sport, but there was an underlying problem brewing that would eventually derail his career.

"I started to notice a pattern in the way the negotiations would go down [with Top Rank] after I beat Orlando Salido," Garcia said.

Garcia claimed that Top Rank would not pay him the full negotiated amount after several fights, saying his opponents were to blame for a reduced purse.

"It was always a fight with them. I took a $100,000 pay cut on the Rocky Martinez fight, and I got about $150,000 less than what I was promised for the next fight. It started to add up," Garcia said.

While Garcia was unhappy with Top Rank, he figured his contract with the company would expire on Feb. 27, 2014, and he would be able to sign elsewhere. Top Rank, however, told him his contract automatically renewed following a title win or a successful title defense, which Garcia said would indefinitely keep him under an outdated deal he signed in 2009. So Garcia sued the company on April 8, 2014, and it took two years for the case to go to court. In the interim, Garcia made several unsuccessful attempts to resolve the matter with Top Rank as he remained inactive and helped his brother and father at the gym.

Following an unfavorable trial hearing, Top Rank was more open to a settlement and eventually came to terms with Garcia, who was freed from his contract without any compensation last April.

That is a very good case. But according to him and his team, they are Not with Haymon or PBC. According to them they deal with Showtime

If they're paying more than what Showtime would offer, their shouldn't be and he's stated that many times. WE all know Arum will low ball Mikey when Mikey is making more than Loma. Same way Oscar was asking for 50/50 against Linares when Linares has never been a draw and was making around 250k per fight. Will Loma take a pay cut to fight Mikey?

I think Mikey may try to really stick to being a free agent. He has turned everyone but Showtime down.

Imo he needs a promoter, but only time will tell if he may the right move.
If not one has written the big check he craves, perhaps he is not the star he thinks he is, has potential, but he thinks he is smarter than all the promoters out there..He isnt.

He may not technically have a contract with Haymon, but he pretty much is a Haymon/PBC fighter at this point. Mikey fights on nothing but PBC cards and his brother has mentioned Haymon multiple of times when talking about how well he pays Mikey.

But this guy has no loyalty to anyone. He's a straight business man. Don't expect him to sign with DAZN or Zuffa Boxing. He may make his way for a show or two on there, but that's it.

I'm fairly certain Mikey is signed with Haymon. Haymon is a manager, and not a promoter.
PBC is a television boxing series. Not a promoter.

When Mayweather left TR, he was a free agent, like Mikey. And like Mikey, Floyd was still signed with his MANAGER, Al Haymon. Daniel Jacobs and a couple others are signed with Haymon as manager and Hearn as promoter.

I don't expect Mikey to sign with any promoter anytime soon. I don't know if other Haymon fighters are signed with actual promoters, or if they just have a promoter for one fight at a time (e.g. Dibella, Schaefer, etc.).

If Mikey is a free agent then why does he only fight on Showtime and Haymon produced cards. Seems like a bunch of bull**** to me.

I'm pretty sure he does have a contract with the manager/advisor Al Haymon. Haymon is not a promoter. TR and GB both sued him on the grounds that he was/is a promoter. (It is illegal to have a manager that doubles as the fighter's promoter- the Muhammed Ali act.) They settled out of court.

Why the heck should any fighter have loyalty to any promoter???? Do you believe promoters are loyal to fighters? Promoters are in it to make money, not friends. Mikey is in it to make money, not friends.

Because he is signed with manager/advisor Al Haymon. PBC is a television series of live boxing events, and is ran by Haymon. Haymon is not a promoter. All his fighters have promoters, most have Dibella or Schaeffer do their promoting.

It is illegal to be both a fighter's manager and his promoter. From my understanding, promoters job is to promote the fighter and his fights. The job of a manager/advisor is to advise a fighter and manage his career. Haymon was sued by TR and GB for supposedly being both. They settled out of court, with Haymon continuing in the role he has always held.

It is like Mayweather. Mayweather wasn't signed with a promoter the last decade of his career. However, he was signed with Haymon his entire career. Even when he was with TR, Floyd had Haymon as his manager/advisor.
