  • Comments Thread For: Winky Wright Backs Wilder To Beat Joshua, Explains Why

Hall of Famer and former undisputed junior middleweight world champion, Winky Wright, backs WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (40-0, 39 KOs) to defeat IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO world champion Anthony Joshua (21-0, 20 KOs). Joshua vs. Wilder is one of the biggest fights to make in the sport - and many view it as the biggest.

I think this potential fight is finally gaining the hype that both teams want. I always believe Wilder stops Joshua but the longer the fight doesn’t happen the better chance I see for Joshua. Joshua needs to make sure this fight happens next before he gets war torn. His competition is far too dangerous for someone with less amateur background and only 22 fights.

No issues backing Wilder if thats how you see it, but Wilder elusive?

I'm starting to lean towards Wilder also. I always thought Joshua would win because he's more versatile but Wilder's one-two is hard to defend against. He can land it from a long distance. I think Joshua will have to get in close to do any damage but we saw against Parker he's not very effective when he has to close distance repeatedly.

Winky is a good fighter, his opinion means way more than mine or anyone posting on here. But while I see Wilder as quick, "elusive" means hard to hit. For Wilder to win, he needs other fighters to mix it up so he can land his lethal power. He sure proved he has a chin, and I bet he could improve on avoiding getting tagged. But he is not elusive. That is part of the reason I have always favored Joshua in this. Joshua tends to be a more traditional "guard up, counter punch, than attack" kind of fighter where Wilder is a "pressure, pressure, pressure, land power" type. I just think if Joshua can be patient he can have Wilder play into his strengths if Wilder can't land clean.

That right-hand may just be a myth!!! Wilder has to be fighting A-list fighters and landing the right-hand to put them to sleep until he does that, everything about him is just myth

I'm guessing you mean Wilder needs to make sure it happens next? I think AJ is improving with each fight and getting more experience in front of the big crowds. He's also stopped taking as much punishment, which is key.

I think the referee had a lot to do with stopping either fighter making progress once inside. I think that actually hurt AJ more than Parker as I'd back him to win that battle.

For me it's quite easy to call. The two fighters have similar physical gifts, Wilder having the speed edge, for now at least, but AJ is a better boxer and capable of fighting to a plan. Wilder has a chance but I'd guess AJ wins 6 or 7 times out of 10 even before home advantage etc.

Wright maybe right about Wilder being more athletic but he's clearly wrong about Wilder being more elusive, which is surprising coming from such a good defensive fighter like Wright.

Fact is Wilder get's hit a lot, we all know it. Szpilka had him off balance seconds into the first round with a right hand, Sconiers, Nicols dropped him, Molina who couldn't lay a glove on Joshua wobbled Wilder, Duhaupas shut his eye and Washington was out boxing him.

Also when they both sparred with Wlad is was Wilder who was dropped multiple times, but we never heard about Joshua getting dropped. So who's the more elusive?

Lets wait till the fights signed before we start talking about who's going to win. Lots of fights didn't happen. Foreman vs Tyson. Lewis vs Bowe, Bowe vs Tyson. Klitschko vs Klitschko.Klitschko vs Lewis 2. So hurry up and wait.
