He was undoubtedly afraid to engage Lemieux, even when he had Lemieux visibly battered, tired, and mentally broken. It was an anticlimactic victory. We've already seen Lemieux outboxed and even stopped by fighters who are not regarded as highly as Saunders currently is. Don't mistake being unimpressed with being bitter.Comment

Vanes is shot, he was ready to retire before Golovkin picked him for an easy win, and, physically, he's not cut-out for middleweight. Besides, Charlo is the WBC 'interim champion', and Golovkin's mandatory. Vanes could be the perfect opponent for a fighter like Saunders to look good against, though.Comment

How convenient for Golovkin.
Call it what it was. Anticlimactic. Like watching a cat toy with a mouse, swatting it around, but never actually killing it. It was like making-out with your girlfriend for 45-minutes, then going home without getting any. Was it a great performance, or was it a let down? Unfortunately, the anticlimactic nature of his victory did not stop Saunders from ridiculously boasting as if he had slayed Goliath.
'Big drama show' or not, the WBC says Charlo is the man to fight. Personally, I would rather see Golovkin fight Charlo instead of Saunders. I think it would be more likely to be an exciting fight. You can pretend you are superior and discuss how you appreciate the tactical nuances of a defensive fighting style, but don't even try to act like you would not rather see a FOTY candidate.Comment

Vanes would be perfect for Saunders to look good against? Saunders doesn't need to be fighting lowly fighters such as Vanes. He's beaten better fighters than Vanes whereas Charlo hasn't. Don't forget Charlo is the one who needs to step up, not Saunders.Vanes is shot, he was ready to retire before Golovkin picked him for an easy win, and, physically, he's not cut-out for middleweight. Saunders is waiting for his rightful shot at either Canelo or Golovkin because it's the fight that makes the most sense in the division. Charlo won't be getting that chance for the time being because he hasn't done anything to warrant it. While he's waiting he could take on fighters that get people interested instead of fighting scrubs the way he has done his whole career. Maybe then he starts to build interest for him to fight either Golovkin or Canelo.Comment

You would have been that guy, back in the 60's, getting your panties in a bunch because Clay had no business being in the ring with Liston.Comment

I've already told you unification trumps mandatory.
If Liston had a much bigger fight against a much more proven fighter to fight against in a unification, then yes, I would definitely pick for him to go in that direction. As would anybody else.Comment
