Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: Joshua-Wilder Must Build, Better For PPV in 2019

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar de la Hoya is very interested in the heavyweight unification between world champion Deontay Wilder (40-0, 29 KOs) and Anthony Joshua (21-0, 20 KOs). But, De La Hoya believes the contest would be much bigger in 2019 - and feels that it shouldn't be rushed to take place in 2018.

Just trying to justify his 2 yr duck period with Canelo while he lined up scrub after scrub.

This fight already got buzz and would do big ppv numbers if it had happened in 2018. People gotta get over this "let it build" b.s. when it comes to big fights. Boxing is in a good place right now across all divisions and will only get better when the best fight the best and big fights are made when available and when they make sense. The casuals ain't gonna wait around for a year and boxing needs to keep recruiting the casuals to keep thriving.

So true. Casuals are talking about this fight. My door man stopped me last week saying, "They ruined this fight. I got $1,000 on Wilder." Lol

I was laughing but it made me realize that the casuals are ready to pay some money for this fight.

Lol. 6 or 10 months is not going to make the fight any bigger than it is now, especially since nobody over here gives a damn about Povetkin or Breazeale. Add to the fact, there will be even less American eyeballs on AJ, because his fight will be on DAZN...

****** comments by De La Hoya, but I guess it helps him since this fight NOT happening this year, will take less attention away from Canelo-GGG.
