The Bach vs U2 was obviously a paradox, but it was useful to render the absurdity of that comparison you made. De La Hoya "paved the way" for welters only because he had the boxing establishment fabricating the Golden Boy image that made him rich. Joe Louis was a natural born icon, not to mention his historic relevance with all the Black vs **** shìt linked to the Schmeling fights.
I am not even putting into the equation the difference in character and soul depth between the two. Louis was, as they famously wrote, "a credit for the human race". I think the same can't be told of De La Hoya, a fake guy with an insufferable forced grin.
In regard to Hagler being another Winky Wright, I won't even comment on that.
You say that Hagler was losing against a smaller man in Duran? Hell, Duran WAS an ATG, even if smaller than Hagler. Do I really have to remind you that De La Hoya's face was made to resemble that of The Elephant Man by someone who started his career as a FLYWEIGHT? Come on, Mc. People like Duran himself, Hearns and John Mugabi would have ****d Oscar (and, having seen what he's at lately, he would probably have been happy of that).
The Leonard fight was an aberration of sorts; either Hagler was suddenly a spent bullet after the Mugabi war, or he started too late to throw punches. Perhaps both. Many people (not me) still think he won. Whatever. That loss sticks out like a sore thumb because it was his last fight.
Anyhow, too bad this is an internet forum; our discussion would be more effective and direct if we could talk eye to eye. As I said earlier, I might not agree with many of the things you write, but your passion - and the appreciation of Bach

You make a good argument for Jouis, duely noted. But Joe was coached how to act and how not to act if he wanted to get anywhere, moreso that Oscar. Oscar was a nice kid in the beginning. I hate to say it, but there is a pretty solid case to say Joe was a bit of a fake himself......God forgive me.
Why do you Hagler fans blow up Mugabi so hard? Mugabi was garbage. The networks made him into a boogeyman. When he fought Hagler, he had fought nobody, not a soul. I don't care who ranked him what I watched then and looking at his record for the 100th time, I still don't recognize a name. He wasn't even a MW really, but a JMW.
Hagler got out just in time because cats like Norris and McClellen would have pine boxed Hagler dirty. There would be no extending the career like fighters do today.
Hagler definitely started too late against Leonard. The first 4 rounds to be exact. I rewatched it and have my scorecard which was 117-112 Leonard (I score even rounds and scored the 9th even due to it being impossible to score.) I clearly gave Hagler rounds 5, 8, and 10 (with the 9th EVEN).
The reason why Hagler won 3 rounds is because he just wasn't that good. I don't care how good you are, a Bantam Weight should never have a close fight with the MW champ.
So what if Pacquiao beat the shít out of Oscar? That was his very last fight. Do you take a dump on Ali for getting mashed by Leon Spinks/Trevor Berbick or dissect Walker Smith for losing to Stan Harrington?
Hagler wasn't at the end of his career and shot like Oscar was. 16 years pro, it's over and thats how many years OScar had in. Do the research and check the math.
Comparing Pacquiao beating a shot Oscar isn't a fair comparison to Duran almost beating a prime Hagler who was a pro for 10 years. No need to remind me of that lol. Your arguments are 90% unreasonable and you're just repeating the old scribes.
Step your game up man and stop using reverse euhemerization on fighters like Hagler. Think for YOURSELF and stop listening to them telling you what to think.
