  • Comments Thread For: Hearn To Wilder: No More Rubbish - You Want The Fight or Not?

Barry Hearn, the founder of Matchroom Sport, is getting tired of the verbal assaults from WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (40-0, 39 KOs). In the last few days, Wilder has been tearing apart Matchroom and their superstar fighter - IBF, WBO, WBA, IBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (21-0, 20 KOs).

      What Canelo Will Make

There is no comparing the money that Mayweather will draw to what Alvarez will make, but it’s still a respectable purse for the 23-year-old rising star. Rafael’s report has Canelo making $5 million on fight night.

While this may look like a slap in the face to Alvarez on paper, Schaefer told ESPN that the challenger will actually be making closer to $12 million. With a percentage of the PPV buys as well, Canelo will be making a huge sum.

      September 13, 2013:

Alvarez's contact calls for him to receive a fight-night check for $5 million, Kizer said. However, the total is very misleading. Alvarez has been guaranteed millions more based on the massive revenue the Showtime PPV broadcast is expected to generate, according to his promoter, Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions.

While Schaefer would not say what Alvarez's minimum total was, a source involved in the promotion said he will earn at least $12 million.

"He will end up making more than $5 million," Schaefer said. "He is going to make a significant upside because of the pay-per-view. It doesn't matter that he is getting $5 million [on the night of the fight] because he will make millions and millions more because I guaranteed him money on the pay-per-view, but I don't want to say how much."

Obviously Wilder doesn't want the fight! He's in no position to make any demand but he's acting like the A-side. I thought he agreed to the terms a short time ago?

So Wilder “obviously doesn’t want the fight” because he didn’t want a flat fee and wanted a two way rematch clause. But AJ does want the fight, even though he turned down possibly the biggest guarantee in boxing history. After he said he’d “sign tomorrow if he guaranteed $50M.” Love your logic.
