His fights actually make money, Wilder's don't. It's enough to have a look at the purses of Wilder's opponents in his 7 title defenses. Apart from Stiverne and Ortiz who got around 500k, the rest got between 140K and 250K. That's peanuts for a title defense and indicates what the pot for his fights is. You are dreaming if you think Wilder makes double what his reported purses are. Haymon has been losing money on Wilder but the cash-out is coming soon, he will finally get a return on his losing (so far) investment.

Yes, the top fighters can make more than their guaranteed purses but that's usually reported. It depends on what kind of deal they have with their promoter. It's not about saving on sanctioning fees and taxes. Sanctioning fees are 2%-3% and anything the fighter receives - purses, revenue cuts, bonuses, etc., will get taxed one way or another.
