Spence isn’t chasing Garcia. He is only considering that option because his preferred fights won’t happen by the end of this year.

The strong southpaw mentioned former WBO welterweight champ Jessie Vargas (28-2-1, 10 KOs) as a potential opponent for his final fight of this year. Spence isn’t especially interested in facing Yordenis Ugas (22-3, 11 KOs), who’s ranked No. 2 by the IBF, in his next fight.

A fight against Garcia figures to be better received among fans, despite Spence’s obvious advantages, than bouts with Vargas or Ugas.

“I didn’t challenge him,” Spence said. “He challenged me. So I think the reaction would be positive. They’ll probably praise him because he’s showing a lot guts, a lot of heart for moving up to fight a so-called big welterweight. So, I mean, that’d be good. And then I’m fighting a guy with a great name and a great resume.

I think Spence should fight Ugas! He's not a household name, but he's a better fighter than Jeff Horn and Jessie Vargas! Now if Mikey is serious, then whatever, but I doubt Mikey is looking for a fight like that by December! I don't think Thurman is fighting Spence in 2019 either! Thurman is M.I.A.! Ugas, Garcia vs. Porter winner, and then Mikey or Crawford! Make it happen!

I don't particularly want the fight but it would remind me of how Oscar used to travel across divisions for big fights. Mikey seems to be that kind of special fighter, who's willing the take all challenges.

He doesn't have to win either. Weirdly, as long as Mikey was competitive, it actually might be smart for both of them b/c everybody would watch that fight. I'll have to think on this more.

Maybe Mikey is smarter than people give him credit for. I mean he did leave Arum (and that's a special group of guys who can say that) lol his name might explode if he did this. I'm a little intrigued now

Just keeping it real. Do you think a fight with Lara, Charlo, or Hurd pulls a big TV audience? (Thinking 900k - 1 million+ views on Showtime) I really doubt it.

I mean we saw GGG doing a similar thing not too long ago (back when he was targeting Cotto, Canelo, and JCCjr instead of Ward). I get what's happening here. We're seeing the businessman come out of him now.

He knows he just has to wait to "collect the belts" at 147. I don't prefer these comments, but they make sense.

It's the same reason Crawford is about to fight Jose.
