Comments Thread For: Lewis Ritson Takes Out Hyland Jr. In One, Wins British Outright

Lewis Ritson won the British lightweight title outright in sensational style. The 24-year-old took just eight months to win the crown he snatched away from Robbie Barrett last year. Ritson stopped Barrett in Manchester last October and now has it for keeps after three incredible inside-the-distance victories.

Come to America now, before the expectations get unreasonable. Undercard in Vegas or some other big venue. Test the waters, develop another stream of income. He sounds like a money maker to me.

He's good to watch but he's surely limited with that style of his - high guard, no head/upperbody movement, quite flat footed. In his favour he is obviously strong with a decent whack on him. Honestly can't see him doing anything outside euro level.

He was a good amateur and very well known locally. Beat Josh Kelly in the amateurs too. He had always been talked about but never got the breaks until now.

He might possibly have more to his game than he's had to show. Let's be fair, he's making very easy work of pretty decent British title level fighters. His opponents might not be world level, but if he was that limited in his style, it would be getting tested at this level at least.

Plenty of fighters seem rather basic on the eye test but it's just different when you're in there with them. Plenty of very good world champions wouldn't be far off fitting that description you just give. Sor Rungvisai always looks basic in some ways, but he has a real knack for landing hurtful shots.

You might be right though, who knows. It'll be interesting to see how far he can go.

They should have him top the bill and Kelly as support next time.

The crowd reactions to both fighters were contrasting. Ritson had the place buzzing.

Depends tbh, Newcastle is Lewis Ritson’s home and some people like Kelly’s flashy style I think he’s gonna be a star and we’ll see how big of a star he gets
