Oscar's decision: good for him , bad for boxing.

So Oscar decided not to fight this year and probably not retire. He wants to fight Mayweather in May (in another year). According to Oscar he only wants to fight Mayweather because he is the top P4P contender. This leaves Mayweather with a business decision to make. Will he play it safe and fight bums until May or take on good challenges that comes his way. It would be sad for that division to go to waste because of Oscars decision. I mean Mayweather has to choose from staying on top to risking his belts in order to fight the biggest PPV of his career. Meaning he will have to avoid the top dangerous fighters in his division.

Why wouldnt Floyd fight the top guys? He wants big fights and he wants to be a big money PPV star. Alot of people also forget that he doesnt have the HBO contract anymore where he can make alot of money no matter what, so he has to have big fights.

Did you just see his list of next opponents? Theres not one bad fighter on there. The only fighter on there no one wants to see is Baldy and Floyd definatly wont fight him because there wont be anywhere near enough money in it and he wants a PPV fight and that fight would not sell ****. Cotto or Hatton wont fight him next so it will be between Margarito and the Vargas/Mosley winner. Floyd will definatly fight one of them.

Why would Floyd fight bums until Oscar? You act like he believes that any of these guys can beat him. There is also no guarantee that a Oscar fight will happened and its a damn year away. You think Floyd's going to wait that long? I think he will fight both of these fights before Oscar. He will fight Margarito in Ocotber or September and fight one of those other 2 guys in Febuary on his Birthday were HBO already has a PPV fight scheduled for him.

PS-He already has lost his belts but it doesnt matter because all of the guys he named has belts. Do you think Floyd cares much about belts at this stage, anyway? I think that he feels that he is getting too old and he is too much in his prime to be fighting ordinary guys, and like I said, he wont make alot of money in those fights anyway and they wont be on PPV

HBO says the dates for floyd are PPV dates, so the opponents cant be bums... but we'll have to wait to see....

I didn't say anything about belts. The reason he is top p4p is because his skill and he is undefeated. If he gets beaten by another fighter he will no longer be on top of the p4p list. Do you think he will fight Margarito and risk his career. Im not saying he can't beat Margarito (cuz I think he would) but, is a risk. I just hope he doesn't fight the safe fights and lesser opponents because he is looking to fight Oscar.

I think Mayweather should fight top opponents at WW, why would he fight bums then move up to fight one of the best boxers of resent times? I think Margarito would be a great prep for moving up in weight to 154.

PBF will not let anything get in the way of that potential $20M payday. His next fight will be against Baldomir assuming he gets by Gatti. PBF can say he is fighting for the belts, while we know he is fighting a slow fighter with no power that offers no risk to him. Perfect.

If Gatti beats Baldomir, then PBF has difficulty selling a PPV fight unless it's a top level opponent. PBF will be cheering for Baldomir.

I can almost gurantee he will fight Spinks. It is the safest fight for him out there.

Oscars decision was smart for him. It is not his fault if Floyd decides to take the safe route and wait around. There are still fights out there that are good for boxing. If Floyd decides to do that he is the one hurting boxing not Oscar. Oscar already came back this year and gave boxing revived boxing. I'm not saying that Oscar was the only good thing in boxing this year, but no one excites the public and brings them back like Oscar does.

Floyd a was quoted on Maxboxing yesterday pretty much saying that he wasn't gonna Margarito anytime soon, and Shane isn't gonna fight Floyd this year. It would be ****** of Shane try and get back down to welter in 3 months and fight again. It's not like Shane is young anymore and the weight loss wouldn't affect him. So for Shane to wait to get reaquainted with the weight is a smart move instead of trying to rush himself and not be at his best. I honestly don't think a fight woth Shane now isn't as meaningful as it would have been years ago when Shane was at his prime atv lightweight and welter. Shane isn't close to the fighter he used to be. I am not a big Shane fan, but it's the truth. This being said I don't know where PBF goes from here. The only option is to take a safe fight with Spinks and wait on Oscar.
