Premature stoppage it was - but it saved some of Horn's brain cells as he was getting hammered all over the ring.

stop a fight too soon or too late.. the ref can't win. remember Magomed? during the fight everybody was enjoying a war. when Magomed almost died everybody said the fight should've been stopped earlier. its easy to play monday morning quarterback. Byrd plays it safe and I ain't mad at that.Comment

This fight took nothing from Horn. He is a good fighter, he lost to a better man. Crawford was just class. The way he moved when he needed to, standing in front of Horn and tagging him, it will be a cold night in hell before someone can beat him. I know Spence is good, punches harder, can cut the ring but Crawford will find a way to break him down. I really wish he could fight Amir Khan.Crawford who moved up in weight for the fight was in control from the outset at MGM Grand Garden Arena. The American (33-0) always looked in control before Horn went down in the ninth round, the fight stopped soon after to hand Crawford a technical knockout win

As for Rushton, he's talking rubbish. Horn had no answers there, we want to see fighters going back to their families in good health. No version of Horn can beat Crawford.Comment

Maybe because this fight was a one sided clinic and the Pac fight was competitive and that 9th round was the only lopsided moment.Comment

I’m big on protecting fighters’ health; but it is a fight, after all. If a man is still physically in it, he must be allowed to continue. There’s always that outside chance of him scoring a KO, however unlikely. Now I know Horn was probably saved further damage, but stopping a fight because a fighter seemingly has no chance to win is like imposing a “mercy rule” in pro sports. It just doesn’t work that way. Horn was completely outclassed and eating hard shots for several rounds, but I thought Byrd was a little too eager to stop the fight. And it’s no accident I use that word.Crawford won every round, he was superior in every aspect BUT the stoppage was bad. A champion should never - and this used to be the case - be stopped on his feet, while still avoiding punches and being cognitively aware of his surroundings and the fight. Fair enough if there was another hard knockdown, another clean combination, but to stop while punches are being missed or glancing is just bad refereeing.Comment
