  • Comments Thread For: Joshua vs. Povetkin Deal Close To Being Finalized, Says Hearn

Eddie Hearn expects Anthony Joshua's proposed fight against Alexander Povetkin to be "finalised in the next 72 hours", but has warned that an agreement for the superfight with Deontay Wilder could still be a month away. The promoter has also revealed that Ireland's Katie Taylor plans to fight on the undercard of the July 28 heavyweight fight between Dillian Whyte and Joseph Parker, despite her father being shot and admitted to hospital.

To be honest, I’ve been doubtful Wilder-Joshua is next anyway. It’d be more of, “Wow. They actually did it.” kind of thing.

good stuff, another top 5 opponent. klitschko, pulev, parker, povetkin are the fighters he chose to sign to fight in a row. no soft touches allowed!!!

I doubt Povektin will give AJ much trouble or bring him to the brink of a loss like Klitschko did. For one, Povetkin is not Klitschko. Secondly, AJ got better since his Klitschko fight. It would be an interesting fight with a boring build-up. C'mon guys, learn some English!

Wilder was never in the equation. Too risky while there are Tens of Millions to be made in the UK fighting more predictable fighters. Povetkin is a man Wilder would have disposed of first had the Russian not been dirty. Just like Oscar, Hearn simply follows the money. It's good for business but lousy for the hard working fan seeking genuine excitement.

It's obviously been heading this way for a while, Joshua/Povetkin is still a great, great fight. One of the best to make in the division. Wilder/Breazeale will be a solid fight as well, hopefully both the fights are entertaining and both guys pull through alright and we can have Joshua/Wilder in early 2019. And for the record, I still think Povetkin beats Wilder

If he put him in with Wilder and he lost people would say, what did Hearn do that for? And if he loses to Povetkin people will say what did he do that for. Everything is a gamble and Joshua over Povetkin seems like a comparatively better gamble. That's what I would bet on as well but as the other guy said it sucks for the fan. Or it will suck if Joshua vs Povetkin sucks.

Hearn was using Wilder to keep this fight out of Russia. If Hearn had turned down Wilder weeks ago Rybainski would've taken it to purse bid to host it in Russia. He wouldn't even let Whyte fight in Bulgaria. You think he letting AJ go to Russia?
