also, if Golovkin had accepted Saunders offer to fight in June..... he would have complete control of his future..... he would be the undisputed middleweight champion of the world..... and he could easily fight Canelo in September

The GGG story is all but over folks, its all about retirement planning now and what happens in the division post GGG.

2 way street, Canelo makes 5-10 million fighting Derev, Jacobs or 40 million fighting GGG.

He has zero options. Canelo holds the cards, the best thing GGG could have done was to fight the Russian and build his profile back up. Canelo brings the money and without him they can't make big money. Canelo can make 15-20 mill against Jacobs, BJ's, or Charlo.

BTW, BJ's will never see the inside of a ring with Canelo and Charlo couldn't headline a card.

Completely disagree with the article. The only savings he gets is the sanctioning fees. Otherwise, they cost him leverage in negotiations. This is going to cost everyone money and helps noone. Derevyanchenko doesn't get paid, IBF doesn't get paid, and likely Golovkin gets paid less.

Now we also get more paper belt holders and more BS posturing.

Pretty sure had Golovkin agreed to fight Canelo, he would've been stripped anyway. Not sure what "favors" the IBF did for him, except making him, Loeffler, and Abel Sanchez mindful of the fact that they don't run anything.

Having belts is a matter of pride and negotiating leverage but sitting on them hurts the other fighters.
