Mandatories have become a joke in the sport...a fighter can seem to go forever without having to fight them. It's kinda funny how he got stripped in this situation tho. He was scheduled to fight and his opponent pulled out on short notice...hardly the time to expect him to fulfill his mandatory. Then all of the sudden the big push after the bad publicity. It needed to be done tho, cuz he clearly had no intention of facing the mandatory.

That obviously would be his career high payday. He's looking at a possible match up vs Andrade or Murray? How much you think that is going to pay? Vs GGG it would at least have netted him a PPV & a few Million. Now it's all risk, basically a second eliminator & still won't see that payday on the near horizon.

He could have built upon his standing & increased his chances for the big fight by taking on a tougher challenge himself. He chose to fight the guy with 22 L's & nothing since, just another guy with no activity level unless ordered to do so with a pending deadline.

I'm all for having the next level fighters square off, but this won't change anything when the top contenders still looking for either Canelo or Golovkin. It's been only Golovkin that's even tried to unify titles at this division for years now. None of the other champs that have been mixed in have even attempted other than Lemieux. None care about that I guess. More paper champs, just what boxing needs.

Now Golovkin can take some blame here too, not by passing on the May 5th match up (one month to fight a mandatory isn't reasonable), rather he could have stayed active & fought Dev over the winter. Too much risk though with the Canelo match looming, I understand that. Bet they'd have chosen differently had they only known how this year was going to unfold.
Because they aren't ****** and know that GGG refused to negotate a fight BEFORE or AFTER the joke Vanes fight. GGG was NEVER going to fight dervy and they knew it. They just want a title shot and it will come against someone who actually has an intention of fighting them. Stop blaming everyone else for GGG's phuk up. Chose a joke in Vanes even when he was told it would likely cost him the IBF belt. He refused to fight anyone he felt was a risk and is now just a "business man" who holds belts hostage, ducks mandatories and prices himself out of fights. When GGG was the high risk low reward opponent like Dervy he clowned other fighters for choosing to fight other big named opponents instead of him. And his idiot fans ate up his nonsense. Now he's on the other end and you fanboys are twisting yourself into a pretzel to blame someone else for GGG refusing to fight his mandatory and getting stripped after he lied to you and said he all he cares about is belts. LMAO

Ironically, GGG got stripped of the only belt that wasn't handed to him. Lol He lost his IBF belt for not fighting his mandatory, while receiving the WBC and WBA belts from the champs not fighting him as a mandatory. But he ain't a business man?

When you're at this level, sadly belts mean nothing. It's all about the payday. Belts are mostly for up-and-coming fighters, or if you just moved up/Down the div, but when you're established like GGG is, belts are honestly worthless. People will tune in to see him fight regardless of how many belts he has.

Do you realize that fighting his mandatory didn't have to happen in May? GGG could of moved the date and had more time to make his mandatory. And even when he was stubborn and refused to change his date Dervy was the one at a disadvantage fighting short notice NOT GGG. GGG had a long full camp, Dervy is the one who was willing to fight on a short camp. GGG and nobody else chose to not move the may date and fight a bum semi retired 154 fighter so bad that the IBF refused to sanction it. And then refused to negotiate with his mandatory after the joke Vanes fight. Fighting Vanes in May made no sense and was highly criticized then and he did so knowing this would likely be the outcome. He made shyt money for the Vanes fight, embarrassed himself because they couldn't sell out the tiny Stubhub, and cost himself his belt. Loeffler is on record saying he wanted to regroup and move the date it was dumb phuk GGG who refused to move the date and demanded Loeffler look in the trash for a cherry pick bum rather then his mandatory or anyone with a pulse. You reap what you sow.

Well, they did say they were gonna do it. I think it's a hasty decision too but it's not like they weren't warned.
