Team GGG had no problem fighting mandatories before and team GGG had enough time to make a fight with Dev. They knew for awhile about Canelos failed test, more than a month actually where they could have started negotiating a backup fight knowing that the IBF granted them permission to fight Canelo. They were quick to sign when it was Wade and Brook on short notice. Team GGG knew they got an exeption to fight Canelo, when that fight fell through they had enough time to fight Dev, negotiate a fight with him as soon as they heard Canelo failed the test as a backup and move off the Cinco de Mayo date to fight in June, giving him the ability to take on his mandatory and still fight Canelo in Sept.

    exactly !

    good post !

No they were not. The last IBF mandatory he fought was Wade. That was like 2 years ago. Yearly mandatories, yearly

GGG had a long full camp, Dervy is the one who was willing to fight on a short camp. GGG and nobody else chose to not move the may date and fight a bum semi retired 154 fighter so bad that the IBF refused to sanction it. And then refused to negotiate with his mandatory after the joke Vanes fight. Fighting Vanes in May made no sense and was highly criticized then and he did so knowing this would likely be the outcome. He made shyt money for the Vanes fight, embarrassed himself because they couldn't sell out the tiny Stubhub, and cost himself his belt. Loeffler is on record saying he wanted to regroup and move the date it was dumb phuk GGG who refused to move the date and demanded Loeffler look in the trash for a cherry pick bum rather then his mandatory or anyone with a pulse. You reap what you sow.
they should have skipped the date and sued Canelo for lost earnings...but then the rematch would never happen.

They absolutely shoulda fought the ibf mando if he was willing to fight for chump change, but it still doesn't mean the ibf should have expected it under those circumstances.

That is what you get for cherry picking a semi retired 154lber over the mando. Loeffler some how still screws up promoting the best middleweight ever.

I kind of agree on that IBF could be more fair, given that before they enforced Wade as their mandatory for GGG. If they put Wade into mandatory position, why they can`t approve Vanes as voluntary. Even coming from a 2 year hiatus Vanes is a better fighter than Wade ever was. Also enforcing Derevyanchenko fight within 90 days is kind of absurd. Both sides would need 90 days just to discuss and agree on the terms of the fight& purse split, venue ans so on. Big venues are booked far in advance, so from the event organization point of view 90-days would be very hard schedule to follow through.
Having said that, I was really dissatisfied with team GGG choosing Vanes fight, instead of scraping the date altogether or fighting Derevyanchenko. Derevyanchenko is a formidable opponent who is at his best now and have only so much time left to make a splash as a pro. It is not fair not to give him his chance, when he wants to take an ultimate career defining fight.
The whole strategy to collect the belts was to acquire an essential position, where everyone would have to fight GGG, who always had troubles in securing opponent. It was so difficult to make a unification fight with Lemieux, who really was looking for easier options. And now, being stripped of a belt? What a shame! Same as Canelo when he was stripped of WBC belt.
Lou Dibella showed that he is a far more effective and influential agent in boxing than Loeffler.

I really don't see how this was unfair. The IBF allowed GGG to take a voluntary to fight Vanes, they just wanted him to fight Sergiy next. It wasn't like they just sprung this on him at the last minute. They've known about this for a while now.

Wow! What some GGG fans will try and justify just so GGG gets his way. I bet if it was Canelo you would be screaming strip him!
