Comments Thread For: Arum Explains Why Crawford is Being Featured on ESPN+

For American boxing fans to be able to watch this weekend's bout between WBO welterweight champion Jeff Horn (18-0-1, 12 KOs) and mandatory Terence Crawford (32-0, 23 KOs), you will to need to subscribe to the the ESPN+ app. Crawford is considered one of the premiere boxers in the sport and it's clear that the network wanted to showcase him on this new platform.

OK - top 5 PxP guy going for a 3rd title in a 3rd weight division, and is considered the "Poster Boy" of ESPN, yet they don't put the fight on TV.
    Makes sense.

I think it was a poor decision to place bud on an ESPN app. I highly doubt that the viewership will even match what it could have done if it were broadcasted on regular ESPN. Also, I know it costs 4.99 a month but if your paying for hbo, showtime, cable, and PPV then a person may not want to dish out an extra 5 bucks a month and who knows if the price will go up. Just a very poor decision IMO and I know many that agree.

I wouldn't mind paying 4.99 to see Crawford fight. Imo he's the best 147 lbs fighter there is.

They would get a great amount of increased viewership if it was on ESPN free ...I'll just wait a week and watch it because I'm certain there's going to be several replays...

I think you guys don't seems to understand that TV is slowly dying and ESPN knows about it ; that's why they are the pionneer of a new way to watch boxing. It's not anymore about people sitting on a couch in their living room, it's about anyone with the app will be able to watch the fight, wherever they are, as long they have a wifi signal.. It might actually seems dumb but i'm sure the futur is not on TV and this app will be the precurser of something new, something better than TV.
              Wait and see.

My thoughts exactly. Call me old fashioned I guess. I know things are transitioning to apps and streaming. It's just not as reliable yet as it is going to be. At the moment I prefer to watch on TV instead of having to worry about if my app will download, will I get a good quality stream without interruption, etc., etc....

horrible decision. There is no buzz for this fight. a lot of confusion from folks on how and where to watch it. Just read the comments on ESPN's article trying to inform the public on how to even watch this shyt. It's 100% negative comments ESPN subscribers upset that they have to pay additional fee, people who don't have a smart tv or streaming device and still watch tv from a cable or satellite provider literally can't watch the fight now. You have a good showtime card airing this weekend as well. This is going to be a disaster with very few watching the fight and if you really wanted Crawford to be the face of ESPN you would put this fight on ESPN for the world to see.

They should of rolled out this app slowly did some lower tier fights built up the app and then launch a big fight on it maybe next year if you have to. I don't know a single person who has used this app yet and from what I'm seeing it's almost all negative. So instead of talking about a pretty good fight all the talk is about trashing ESPN and this app.
