Fighters holding to avoid action or contact should be penalized. It makes the referee's job harder and it totally kills the inside fighting aspect of boxing. It's also an eyesore for fans. We want to see punches exchanged, not h0mo****** hugging contests.

If both guys initiate no issue.

But i disagree about holding when hurt. You're literally breaking the rules to prevent the other guy from having a chance to win..

It's become so accepted even announcers shout "he should be holding now"! Lol what if they shouted instead "he's hurt in order to buy time and preserve dem derr legs he should crack the other dude in the balls! That'll slow him down and buy him some time to recover"! Heh heh

Remember marquez when he got hurt? Bit down on his mouthpiece, planted his feet, and unleashed hell inside two 8oz gloves! Deadly precise, fast, and powerful combination after combination until either him or the other dude fell down.

I see your point. As fans, we're so accustomed to seeing a stunned fighter hold on. Commentators scream for it, the trainers, fans, etc.

I've never seen a ref penalize a fighter for holding while hurt. Even in boxing video games.

By the way, Tito Trinidad comes to mind when he got hurt and hit Vargas on the balls. He was deducted two points. Well worth it for him, since he won at the end of the day. Lol

It would be interesting if there was a zero tolerance policy to any holding, it would change the game for the better overall. It would force fighters to just bite down and throw back, or take a knee if they really needed to.
