There are only two actors who are better suited to Jack Johnson than the Rock. Patricia Arquette and Kevin Nealon. All three are great choices, whichever way they go.

The Rock is massive. He is as thick as two normal people with a 55 inch chest and 10 inch arms and he must weigh about 250 pounds. He is a good actor but he looks nothing like Johnson or any boxer except maybe Briggs.Johnson weighed 192 pounds when he beat Burns for the world title. I would rather they teach a boxer to act who looks like Johnson and is his size. Somebody like ex cruiserweight champ Cunningham only younger.Johnson was about 6 foot 1 inches or 6 foot 2 inches tall and weighed in the 190 to 200 pound range in his prime.He was lean and muscular. I like realism in my boxing movies and a real boxer playing Johnson makes it more real.

it's easier to teach someone to throw punches than it is to teach a boxer to act. You don't have to teach the actors EVERYTHING about boxing. Hell, some fighters don't even have the sweet science down.

James Earl Jones already portrayed him and did a great job with the role. It's going to be a tough act to follow. I just don't see The Rock as Jack Johnson. Need someone a little more hard around the edges, and I think too many viewers would be distracted by the fact they are watching The Rock and not a Jack Johnson portrayal. He may be a little long in the tooth but Wesley Snipes wouldn't be a bad choice.
