How is $50M a cut in earnings?
This is his chance to add the American market — where the real PPV money resides —and make himself a worldwide star.
Those 70K crowds include a lot who pay $25. Same as they charge for PPV in the UK — after the PPV server gets paid, it’s probably $10-12 that goes to the promoter. In the US they charge considerably more and the door is wide open for a new No. 1 star to fill the Floyd void.
Those 90k not 70k crowds, I have to add they could sell out two football stadiums easily for a big AJ fight.
I can guarantee no one is paying £25 a seat, anyone who has tried will know you have to go on stub hub and pay up if you want a ticket.Comment

If true then fair enough. An immediate rematch, regardless?
They haven’t been very forthcoming about that on either side if so, or even hinted. Just alluded about a rematch.
Could AJ (and to whatever degree Wilder) both get away with being out for likely a year to fight each other twice without being forced into a mandatory defence?
AJ it keen to not lose a belt and paying Povetkin a step aside or some kind've sweetener/promise once is one thing, but twice!?Comment

it's obvious this fight is not gonna happen this year from the way things are dragging.Comment

He already has the UK market. To become a major WORLD star he’s going to have to leave his backyard. You’re living in a fantasy world if you think Joshua just comes to fight the very (not) famous Wilder in vegas and becomes a “worldwide star”. He’s already a star. He’s already making vastly larger amounts of money than anyone not named Canelo. “Real ppv money”? Get real. Floyd is unique and Joshua is making a lot more at a younger age and thats without having the huge names of Cotto, Canelo, Pacquiao, or De La Hoya, Conor. He never sold that well alone but he was also his own promoter. VERY different situations. Floyd is also American.
Anthony Joshua only had Wlad and is single handedly carrying events making like 15mil a fight. Selling 1.5mil ppvs, etc
He’s taking (speculating) what we THINK is a big paycut but really, beating Wilder in his own home would be huge and make him an astronomical star there. And if he beats fury? Good luck finding a more ideal situation for any athlete in any sport. Beating Wilder in the US is less meaningful. It’s a bigger deal if Wilder wins...for Wilder. The few people who know of Wilder will still know Aj beat him despite the location.
We need to get over it. There are fighters who dont need America, especially heavyweights or some of the uk guys
PPVs in the UK cost about as much as a curry for lunch. In the US there is a greater fortune to be made to add to the UK market.
Unless, of course, he’s scared to fight Wilder in America ... scared enough to turn down $50M.Comment

The less said publicly, the better chance there is of the fight happening. Guys go public when negotiations aren't going well. When negotiations are going well, everybody shuts their mouth as to not risk spooking the other side.Comment

Well, based on experience, I agree with you absolutely.Comment

Funny thing is that so many are misquoting what Anthony Joshua said.
"...so I'm now hearing that they want a 60/40 split, they are happy to take 40 percent, and they're happy to give me 60 percent...so apparently it's a hundred million dollar fight."
"It's a hundred million dollar fight, right? Would you say so?"
"We're gathering that this is a hundred million dollar fight, that's what they're saying, and they want 40 percent of that pot so I say 'okay'...what's 60 percent of 100 million? 60 million...okay...I'll take 50 million up front...if that's the case, then Wilder's team bring the 50 million up front and I'll take the fight."
That is what he stated. The basis is that only Finkel and Wilder believe that a Joshua-Wilder fight generates 100 million dollars when many within the boxing world know that it does not reach that point right now.
So for Wilder to send an email to Hearn and McCracken (even though his promoter DiBella said days before that fights don't get made through emails) means nothing.Comment

realistically, wilder knows he cannot get 40%. He is not a that position to make such request, his resume and drawing power is still on a low. He is more interested in fighting breazeale.
That fight is signed and sealed. They are waiting for AJ/podvetkin to announce first.Comment
