Sure it's a negotiating tactic. And sure too that people do say **** it. And sometimes based on principles and sometimes on wanting to mess up somebody else.
But in this case, Team GGG need to understand that from both a professional and business point of view it makes more sense to fight Canelo and also 35% is not the end of the world at all.
I disagree that Canelo's rep suffers. Casual fans will forgive and then forget transgressions and it is the casual support that makes a ppv star.
Canelo can make the same as he would against Golovkin by fighting Spike then Lemieux and then Andrade - and have a better chance of staying unbeaten than fighting Golovkin or Charlo/Jacobs/BJS.
In short, taking a long term perspective Canelo has zero need for Golovkin.

The casual fan is less and less tuning into boxing, at least PPV. I am not just talking about money either. Canelo's rep has suffered. In Mexico Canelo gets the worst of it. I have never seen a Mexican fighter as disliked as him within Mexico. After the Golovkin fight that didn't improve. After the PEDs it has only got worse. Now he's not going to fight Golovkin possibly. His legacy is going in the toilet.

No he will not make the same fighting Spike or Lemieux. That is absolutely silly. Now the guy who gets a much bigger upside is Golovkin but Canelo is not making the same regardless who he fights which is what you are stating.

Your analysis is dead wrong. You first lack the perspective of what Canelo's rep is not just in the States but in Mexico. Your faulty notion that Canelo can make the same money fighting Golovkin as anyone else is also not correct.

Where are your comprehension skills? I didn't say that. I said if he fights 3 fights he can make the same as 1 golovkin fight but at minimal risk.

I can only say what I have seen in decades of following boxinrg. Namely errors, transgressions and even a few losses are all fogotten if a fighter can come back and string a line of convincing wins together.

I'm not saying Canelo's reputation is teflon coated but he is still young - he can have a dip for 18 months and then come back stronger than ever - but in the end we need evidence in the form of his ppv sales dipping or maintaining - we dont have that info yet.
