Ik off the top of my head Jack Dempsey obviously he uses the Dempsey roll and his Bob and weave style.
But it seems like theres more to his character than just Dempsey.

I think the main influence is probably a young Mike Tyson when he was learning with d'amato.

Tyson and Dempsey. Miyata is based off of Juan Manuel Marquez and Takamura is based off of Sugar Ray and RJJ. Oh yeah and Aokimura are based off of cab drivers lol

Ippo is supposedly based on Dempsey and Tyson

which is disrespectful, because Ippo is a bum who got KTFO in his first match as a world contender

his biggest achievement is winning the japanese fw belt lol

Ippo went down the drain due to his editors messing with his release schedule, him realizing he never really had an end game for Ippo, and that he made Ippo too strong to create any more drama but at least we still got the memes.

Ippo has lost his last two fights!

He's basically on his way to becoming a Gatekeeper/Journeyman.

The next season will see if Ippo becomes a Contender again or not.

It's all over for Ippo, he's punch drunk now

                  he will became a trainer

recent chapters seem to confirm that manga is about to end

I think the author just got too old and got tired from the whole thing

I don't know man. Miyata is a head-hunter, feather-fisted and a weight bully. Doesn't seems too close to Marquez, even more knowing his ascension was after the character was stablished
