He already signed with Top Rank so obviously they are offering a better deal or he wouldn't have signed. Nice fat 7 figure signing bonus and bigger purses than Haymon and Sampson are paying him. Plus they have Zurdo and Hart and access to Callum Smith Eubank etc.

168 isn't one of PBC's deepest divisions. Mostly retreads like the Dirrell Bros, Caleb Truax and James DeGale. None of those guys are going to do much for Benavidez career. He can unify vs Zurdo and then move to 175 and fight Gvozdyk for that 175 WBC title hes about to lift off of ol' man Stevenson.

Sampson and Haymon actually did a good job moving and building Benavidez but this is business. He's got a better opportunity with Top Rank.

Its no different than when Haymon pilfered Mikey Garcia and Chavez Jr from Top Rank. Haymon promised Mikey the moon and after 2.5 years on the sideline collecting dust he is finally starting to make some money again. Same with Chavez except he didn't have to wait as long and his career was ruined by horrible matchmaking in first PBC fight vs Fonfara.

And nothing wrong with following the money. But if he signed a contract extension last November then he should honor the contract or at least negotiate a buyout before jumping ship to another promoter while he's still under contract. IDK why some people think they can sign an agreement and not honor it. That's why it's called a contract.
And that goes for every aspect of life. You sign a contract then honor it. That simple!

I completely agree with you! I see flaws in Ramirez and not completely convinced about him yet. But Benavidez is a beast! No wonder both Sampson and Arum want him.
I just hope his career doesn't stall the same way Mikey's did. He's too young to be going thru this bullshet!
He needs to stay active and fighting three times a year at least!

Top rank needs relevant fighters to fill the dates they have with showtime. That's why there so desperate to get fighters. Why didn't they just co promote then you ask? The lazy answer would be to say they want control unfortunetly that's my best guess (sigh)

I'd be surprised if that holds. I think Sampson is a very smart & underrated cat in the game. Also sort of disappointed in David. TR had first dibs on signing David back in the day, but give the dude no love. Now that he's become something TR is all on his **** & David is like a dude with a pocketful of money at the stripclub although without a clue in the world about why he's likely to end up the victim here.

Assume the best case here is David loses a year of his career & I'd bet he ends up back with Sampson or TR has to buy out Sampson or some sort of partnership has to be created. All in all its not gonna be decide d anytime soon so I don't understand this move unless David just wanted a break from fighting for awhile.

I gotta figure Bob thinks there is some hole in the contract. But idk that Sampson is THAT guy to leave a contract THAT open that a guy he just re-signed within the last 6ish months is now a free agent.

Curious what way Haymon is feeling with this.

He really is a piece of ****.
Not saying you're wrong, but it's a business.

Arum's pitch has never been about fights. It's been about longevity and earning potential. That means also protecting fighters, because guess what? Not every fighter wants hard fights all the time. They want to fight as long as possible and make as much as possible. Arum has proven he can offer them that.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Thurman be with Top Rank or Ishe Smith, it's over for Haymon if Spence and Tank Davis goes!
