So asking for mando means going to a purse bid? Kovalev fights for the respect, not for the money. He never acts like a diva and prices himself out. The only restriction was that it would be on HBO. He had three belts to Adonis’s one, and would have gladly taken 50%, hell maybe less. He made 6-7 times less than Ward in both fights, but he still fought, and never moaned about the small payday.

So how exactly did Haymon outsmart them? By making it so the fight didn’t get made? Was that any good for the sport or the fans?

Dude, enough. HBO didn't lock up Adonis. Kathy made a mistake pushing for the mando by not thinking of the purse bid scenario, which frankly should've been obvious to her. So Kathy and HBO did what they could to make the best of the situation.

Haymon didn't "make it so the fight didn't get made". he made sure it would go to a purse bid because his fighter would get to choose arena and would get the bulk of the purse. That is what he is supposed to do-get the most amount for his fighters.

If you want to just recount half the story-be my guest. There are plenty of threads on this topic. Everyone involved is to blame.

Kovalev broke his body and sent the diva off into retirement by the way, so he will need a couple more PED cycles before his body is healed after the beating he got, and he makes his comeback.

Honestly at this point, it's still a big fight. If they give adonis 60/40 he will fight on HBO not purse bid. Lets just get this overdue fight over with. If Adonis wins. Ward should had cleaned out 175 before he left.

I was in the minority.I thought Adonis would beat Krusher.Adonis had everything in place to be a giant fan favorite but he chose a different way..Sucks for us now and it's going to suck for him later when he doesnt make it to the hall of fame

True. I would say part of it is Stevenson can't fight in the US so its difficult to get some guys to go to Canada. That said, if you read my subsequent post, I point out that Stevenson has fought in obscurity and the decision to go to SHO hurt him.

I agree.Plenty of blame to go around but fighting Ward twice and now fighting the guy Adonis paid multiple times to not fight assures that history is going to say that Kovalev was the better fighter..For the record I thought Adonis would beat him but we'll never know.

HBO failed to lock up Stevenson for the Kov fight with a long term deal. They only locked up Kov. So SHO made an offer to Haymon for Stevenson to kill one of HBO's biggest fights and prevent HBO from reaping the ratings benefits.

Kov asked to be the mando. He got the request. Fight was going to a purse bid then suddenly Kov backed out. HBO made him give that spot up as a condition of resigning him because they didn't want to have the Stevenson/Kov fight on SHO and they reap no benefits of a fight they built up.

Had HBO locked Stevenson up to ensure the fight got made. They messed up. Stevenson took the money and has fought in obscurity sever since.

Kov took the HBO deal and got pushed into a Ward fight where he lost IMO a bad decision ( i had him winning 114-113 over Ward) in a poor selling PPV and then quit in the rematch, hurting his stock.

Both guys had a hand in preventing the fight from happening. Stevenson did 1st, Kov did 2nd. The network war between HBO and SHO cost us this fight moreso than the 2 fighters.
