Beyond that, you're overstating BT Sports' position in a pretty silly way; they have Champions League, but Sky Sports was still able to purchase the top 4 of the 5 packages put up for auction of the Premier League because they had more money, lol.

DAZN isn't going to outbid FOX/CBS/NBC/ABC for any part of the NFL content package, isn't going to outbid TNT/ABC for the NBA package, isn't going to outbid CBS for SEC Football, or ABC for ACC/Big 10 Football, or outbid NBC for the rights to Notre Dame football.

Beyond that, we still have no idea what Fox Sports is set to do; after the initial UFC deal, Fox Sports is already on record as being willing to pay near $200m a year for less UFC content than before. Starpower is star power, but with PBC already showing that they can draw similar combat sports numbers to the UFC when measured up, there's nothing that should hinder them from putting up at least what the UFC got in their initial deal for PBC.

With Showtime/CBS committed to the sport, and Fox Sports needing the content for FS1, Haymon ends up with similar money on his side, without needing to build the reach of his platform from scratch.
Theyve just got the World Cup in Germany, thats pretty damn major. Some statement of intent

Getting Bundesliga in Germany would be a far stronger statement of intent, because that's the type of thing that they're competing against to become "Netflix of Sports".

Picking off events that are secondary or further to the home market can only go so far.

Can't remember the length of the deal off of the top of my head but Sky Sports paid almost $4b for the UK/Ireland rights to the English Premier League for 4 of the 5 content packages put to bid. Folks need to remember the scope of what's being talked about here.

If DAZN was somehow able to get the global rights to the World Cup, then you'd be talking about something.

World Cup isn't a 'secondary' event.

It's the biggest sport event on the planet, along with Olympics.

As the poster said, getting the rights to world cup is a statement.

Germany isn't America where domestic leagues are the most important (largely because only Americans play those sports).

Bundesliga games are watched by mostly football fans and Some casuals.

        Everybody watches World Cup.

You're drastically overstating the reach of the World Cup, especially to countries with no team in the tournament and to countries without a real chance to win.

Germany is a really good national team; if you're earnestly trying to argue that securing the World Cup rights in Germany is bigger than Bundesliga in Germany, that's on you

Lol you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

Last world cup was watched by 3.2 billion people around the world. The final alone drew 1 billion viewers.

World Cup in a football loving country like Germany is like Super Bowl in USA but lasts a whole month. Nothing except Olympics compares to it.
